the clunk's been evident for a while now (well, since she bought it) and its now reared its head for investigation.

its a drive train clunk, caused by slop in the drive train. obviously......
so, eliminating the minor slop in the system, (drive flanges, diffs,) it appears a good chunk of it in within the transfer box or gear box.

with the wheels off the deck, handbrake on to prevent the rear prop turning, main box in gear to lock the box to engine and giving both front wheels a good shove, there's a bit of rotational movement on the front drive flange of the box.
this is notably reduced if the diff lock is engaged, but not eliminated.

its a 200tdi 90 with the lt77 mainbox, don't know the number for the transfer box, and the questions are-
what is the likely cause of the slop?
what is the fix for the likely cause of the slop, short of swapping the box?

short vid of front prop rotation, excuse the droll Yorkshire accent.
ta muchly.

Not again

We are going to have to put my Landy faults threads in anything goes :p:D:D

uj's can add a little more backlash in the system as well as the diff bearings (remove prop and tighten up the big nut ;))

Thank you for the one and only sensible reply (I think):cool:

I have no idea what you are talking about, but I am sure Neil will :D:D:D

Input gear, output, centre diff itself :p ? more or less anything back from the flange ?

Most of the play in mines from the centre diff itself I reckon, took the cover off the input gear to check and it was nice and tight so its something closer to the output end. Going to have a more in depth look tomorrow I think as well as renew the bearings while its out of the vehicle

no shiit Sherlock!
kinda diagnosed that meself, and without stripping I've no idea.
take plenty of pics of yours so I know what not to cock up on.

but cheers for the reply.
even if you looked cos you thought it were related to summat else

you will allways have some play in diff lock as collar is designed that way to help engagement ,but is slack is reduced by diff lock center diff must be an issue, shafts wear as do thrust washers
