I wonder if anybody can offer any help ?

My landy has been parked up for two months & had serious problems starting it up. As soon as it turns over & you press the accelerator the engine cuts out.

Someone suggested that fuel may have gone funny so I topped it up & used some redex - after about 1 hour of trtyinjg to start it it ran & cleared out all of the Redex.

I drove it around for two weeks no ;roblems but now Im having problems starting it again.

Turns over but as soon as you use the accelerator then it cuts our - if you dont press the accelerator it fires but does not run.

When it was running it on occasions seemed to be not running on all cylinders. It was also not ticking over very well & a couople of times the accelerator seems to be stuck on & racing.

I have tried to start it that many times now that is has fleattened the battery !!

Any ideas anybody ?

Sounds like you've got either dirt in your fuel or the fuel-filter has done its job and now needs replaceing.

When was it last serviced?

is the fuel pump noisey? Do you hear screaming or gargling?

Have you tried holding the throttle pedal flat to the floor and cranking it over (do not pump the pedal). If it doesn't start after 10 seconds it then chucks extra fuel in to help purge the injectors.

Had it as a diesel testers today & they have said it showed up with 42 problems - you name it - it seems to have a problem with it .

i can beleive that as it has hardly ever been offroad & well looked after only 52 k !

They think it might be the ecu or wiring - what do you all think ?

I think you ought to pull the red plug off the ecu and have a look for signs of oil contamination. It sounds like you may have oil wicking down your injector harness. If caught early it costs about £40 for a new injector loom and the engine loom can be cleaned. If left it can lead to ecu failure.

is it easy to change or will i need to take it to auto elec - only problem is where ever i go I have to pay for it to be transported !

Well no luck - changed the injector loom , fuel filter , air filter , clean up the ecu - very very small spec of oil on red connector .

Engine will turn over & runs but smokes badly - as soon as you try & get it to idle over it cuts out !

Any more ideas anybody !

Hay Ratty I read some where there was a recall on the TD5 injector harness, free replacement. They came up with a better oil seal on the connector. If they do a search on the putter they should find it:D

Yep there is just type in- recall landrover td5 injector harness and you will smile.

is there an easy way to empty fuel out & replace it or would I have to drop the half full tank !
I did put a full bottle of redex in fuel a few weeks ago ? could that be a problem tank was 1/4 full at time

undo filter bleed screw or water switch on botton and switch on ignition doubt thats your problem, you can test fuel delivery by removing feed to engine from filter should come out in strong uninterupted flow
