The solenoid on my starter-motor is worn out and I'm just looking to buy a repair kit, however, before I just repair the solenoid, is it worth considering replacing the whole starter-motor as a unit? The prices aren't as high as I would have expected.

The car has done 110k, so I suppose my question is, do the starter-motors themselves tend to go wonky as time goes on, or are they pretty bullet proof?

Has the beastie spent its whole life on the island doing stop start short journeys?

Or did it do 109K miles on the mainland motorways only being started thrice?

Personally for a tenner I would just change the solenoid , but that is me.
Cheers

Bought a repair kit for the solenoid, but it'll be interesting to see how long my temporary plunger ring repair lasts though.
