Good morning. just wondering is anyone else has had these problems with the Discovery 4 HSE Luxury ... the list goes on.

1) Cracked manifold - now replaced (no error messages as I drove off after the repair)

2) 2 Weeks later - totally died on a round about and was towed home. Replaced stop start and starter motor.

3) Still no power - discovered burnt earth cable - replaced the burnt section of the earth cable. (all working now and no error messages on computer)

4) Drove the car for one evening after the (3) repair. Moved the car off the driveway the next morning and its totally dead!!

I'm at my wits end!! Any suggestions please?

hi

don’t blame u mate to being fed up , personally would get it plugged into diagnostics to see if any codes are there

Did u have issues before the manifolds were replaced plse or only since as I wonder if maybe they haven’t reconnected everything properly , case in point , the bad earth connection issue

have u got ur own multimeter plse , if not would pop it down to Halfords to ensure the batteries/ alternator are all working

there are other tests that can be done with a multimeter but wish to at least cover the bascis first and foremost

hope that helps

@Reluctant Runner , @gstuart can walk you thru the fault finding better than anyone on here, please please do follow what he says and I'm sure you'll come good

bless u for such kind words , think I learnt a lot when I had a canbus issue , had to virtually tear mine apart looking for the issue , then to learn several wiring issues as I resolved one and onto another one popped up, lol

indeed have seen there are several other D3 owners who are also very knowledgeable

thks again

I know mate but you always put so much effort in and give people resources and sometimes they don't seem to wanna follow the advice! I'm sure op will tho, he sounds pretty clued up if not very fed up. Hope he gets it sorted 👍

Many thks , indeed has felt that sometimes I’m banging my head against the wall when passing test details on and they then go off onto a different tangent

have built up quite a good list of test sequences that I found worked for me , plus invaluable in having my own diagnostics , multimeter and a break out box , including canbus testing

reminds me next year will get an oscilloscope , plus wish to also learn how to use a canbus sniffer , need to ensure it will work on an apple laptop

find all of this very interesting in learning new things

thks again my friend and goes along way when people say plse , thk u

Let's see if the op comes back before Gary goes out of his way with what and how to check his D4.

many thks and as a side note , I now don't bother helping anyone unless there’s a please or thk u as feel that’s the least they can do

alas we do seem to get some newbies come along , get advice and then not heard from again without giving an update or assistance to others

another pet peeve is when they don’t bother introducing themselves

well that’s my moan for the day , lol

Thank you for all the comments everyone. On each occasion, it has been plugged into a diagnostic computer and had the smoke blown into it that's how they found the manifold crack. An earlier question I had asked to me was there a problem before the manifold. I had the engine management light come and it went into limp mode, placed on the diagnostics, the fault come up as a sensor needing replacement (something to do with me not driving it like a man and driving it too much like Miss Daisy) 🤣. Anyway both these sensors were replaced. I'm hoping that it is just another earthing issue 🙏- mechanic is coming on Tuesday so wish me luck!

ur so welcome and always a team effort as a collective assistance

sounds like they replaced both Maf sensors , alas sometimes a fault comes up where sensors are blamed when indeed it’s something else causing those sensors to throw an error , ie, bad connection or broken wire

plse let us know how u get on

@gstuart i certainly will keep you posted.

Thank you i will definitely keep you posted. Yes it was the MAF sensors. Just to go back a step, i took it in to get the aircon re-gassed, and suddenly the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree. The gassing was done, but the aircon never kicks in even though it is on all the time. So I'm now wondering if its an electrical /earthing fault connecting to the aircon that is causing all this problem. i guess i just have to wait for Tuesday 🤦‍♀️
