Hi Landy friends,
Mine is a 2003 Free TD4 whose SRS light has come on and refuses to go off.Dealer says it is not critical but I'm afraid the airbag will activate. Please tell me what to do without dealer intervention.
Thanks

hi
SRS is the restraint system of which the seat belt pretensioners are one component.

The light coming on indicates a fault in this system and your dealer should be able to determine what is causing the problem.

Have you been cleaning under the front seats as pulling wiring connector apart is often a cause!

I had this problem. The casue was found to be that the heater matrix was leaking coolant onto the SRS controller which is situated on the transmission tunnel, under the carpet, under the central console, right beneath the blower unit. The connector was tarnished. After fixing the leak and drying out it took just a reseating of the connector to solve the problem.

as per rustymark, check the connectors under the front seats. sometimes just moving the seat backwards and forwards can cause a fault as it dislodges the connectors if they don't get moved for a long time.

the SRS light means the airbag/restraint system is less likely to go off, not more likely. if there is a fault with the system, the ecu disables that part to prevent accidental activation. the warning light is to tell you a safety system is part disabled.

If problem is connectors under seat, vaseline put into both pins and sockets should prevent it happening again provided you cure any serious carpet dampness.

Also worth removing the airbag from the steering wheel (two torx bolts).

The connector at rear had dropped out on mine causing SRS light to remain illuminated.

Regards,

Steve
