Hello guys, hope someone can help
I recently changed the battery on my Disco 1, wanted to fit the heavy duty one rather than the light weight version. In the course of this I discovered that there was 9what I thought was a relay screwed to the battery carrier platform. I unscrewed this and disconnected the connector. Only then did I realise that underneath all the dirt was a yellow sleeve.
Since then the SRS light has come on and flashed for a while and then light steadily after each start up.
I have replaced the starter motor as part of a load of work as well as sorted out some of the earth lines (all now less than 0.5 Ohms)
So startup and everything else is OK.
So what Have I done! can I reset this SRS myself. Are the 'Relays one shot devices? I can't remember if I dropped it when removing it?
If so How do you reset it. there is a hole but I've not poked about in it!
The mounting screws were particularly tight!) Please note its been remounted on a suitable part of the body (level in same orientation as the old site, but out of the way of the battery case.
So Help, Can I reset the SRS module, how can I find out if the 'relay has triggered and reset it?
Is SRS a must for an MOT?
Thanks for the help and advice this year.
Hope you have a good day and a prosperous new year.

Have u confirmed what u thought was a relay is a relay? as it may the air bag crash sensor depending on your VIN there's also a second one on the other side of the engine bay, also any delicate electrical componant doesn't like being droped.:)

You require a LR Testbook or similar then U can reset ther SRS.

Copied from LR Workshop manual:

Two different SRS systems are fitted to Discovery.
The Distributed SRS which has two crash sensors
located in the engine compartment on the chassis
longitudinals and the Single Point Sensing (SPS) SRS
which has a single crash sensor located in the Airbag
diagnostic control unit.
The change from distributed SRS to SPS SRS
occurred at VINs 198222 and 528977.

thanks for the prompt reply.
I don't think I dropped it, but it was dark.
Why such hassle with SRS reset!!!!!

Is there any way I could use a laptop and interface lead.
Doe anyone make one?

So LR re again into special tools etc.
Do you think I could take it all out and get away with it.
Vin number starts MA 15xxxxx.

Safety features are not self re-setting perhaps something like Hawkeye or similar may do a reset but not a laptop you wouldn't be able to get the software or lead and also u have to clear the fault first if there is one.

Do u have a sensor on the other side.? Perhaps post a pick of this item as it the first time I've seen a tread on it, I bet there's info on the www on it, somewhere.

Nothing to stop u from from replacing the steering wheel and removing SRS ecu from the vehicle...that i know of.

thanks for the update.
I'll wait till the suns up again and take a photo.
I think it must be a multipoint as there are two sensors , one either side of the raditor.
Also the warning on the SRS box states, do not drop so I presume there is another 'sensor' in that.
Seems very stupid to put SRS on an off road vehicle , also I not you can set off the hazard warning lights by banging the front bumper, even though the sensor is in the passenger footwell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway thanks for the help and advice. much appreciated.
Have a happy and prosperous new year.
