Good morning to the early riser! Could anyone let me know how you tell the true mileage of an ex- mil 110 2.5 na 92’ ?
I have superficial rust on body work only 1 gaiter on track rod is showing signs of wear.
How high does a speedo go is it 100000 then back to 0? Thank you in advance

Yes, a mileometer goes back to zero after 100,000. It is very hard to tell the true mileage of an older vehicle with any accuracy. Especially an ex mil. But general condition can be an indication. On a civy vehicle the service history and a complete file of mot certificate helps. If the mileometer has been clocked (turned back) the numbers are often misaligned. The best way would be to strip the engine and measure the wear in various bits, providing it is the original engine.

Mileage is a record of how far it has travelled, not how it was driven, how many times it has been serviced or even how well it has been maintained ...

A good look at the vehicle says a lot ... a closer look says more ...

The "engine hours" clock of a plant vehicle would be more helpful. Very rare to see a speedo/odo with tripped numbers these days, more likely that one would be run on with a power drill, or just replaced. One of my 30 year old trucks has a suspiciously low mileage that everyone comments on...Im pretty sure thats what has gone on with mine.

However, getting the info on an ex-MOD thing - I have vague memories of there being some way of finding work records if one had the relevant numbers but Im buggered if I remember how. Not this early in the day.

A Speedo/odometer goes back to zero after a hundred thousand miles??

Well, 99,999. At least my series one does. Newer electronic ones go up to 999,000 I think.

As do the mechanical 90/110 era vehicles. They go to 999,999

Also don’t forget that when idling the speedo doesn’t move - lots of idling in the army to keep squaddies warm lol

Go on condition and don’t worry about mileage.

Mine is on 130,000 km and when I got it was on 118,000km but it had had at least one recon engine when in the army so impossible to tell how many miles it has actually done. Doesn’t matter though!

I think it is generally accepted that the milage reading a vehicle leaves the army with, is likely to be accurate, although a few must get a new spedo if it breaks.
