hi , just completed head gasket on my wife's TD5 / 1999 and it won't start !
Googled the life out of it and no help !
New injector seals , timing checked , primed umpteen times still no go .
I can smell unburnt fuel and it NEARLY goes but not quite :(
Will go on a SMALL sniff of brake cleaner but dies off once that's burnt .
So I guess fuel related but I don't know what to try next !
Any help MUCH appreciated :)
Regards Marc

not sure if it will help, but landrover toobox on youtube did a series of 3 videos about non starting Td5's.

May be worth a looksie.

Good luck

No offence but i've seen it happening, are you 100% certain that the injector loom was well connected to the main harness(i suppoose the injectors were), dont mess with starting fluids in the intake cos they'll only explode in the chamber but won't help if the Td5 is not starting on it's own... if you cranked it much charge the battery to full cos if it's weak it will spin the starter but won't open the injectors, check if the crank sensor's wiring/plug was not disturbed accidentaly... is it manual or auto, if it's manual try to bump start it

It would appear that you have checked main items, but as sierrafery says check the harness and battery voltage. I wonder when you said you can smell unburnt fuel, if the fuel is getting into cylinders and then exhaust (hence the smell) are the compressions low, you said it runs on brake cleaner which seems to rule out the compression theory. My disco would not start after a full service, I checked the injector harness (oily) so changed it for a new one, checked fuel pump not working but would if powered independanty but still not starting.
It eventually turned out to be the ecu had decided to fail at that point.
hope you find fault easily, Marshall.

Yep checked continuity between injector plugs and Ecu , all ok .
Just ordered a fuel pressure test gauge to check for 4bar to rule out pump and pressure regulator ( with guidance from the very good YouTube videos mentioned )
Will update once tested .

IMO it should start and idle even on low pressure just powerless as long as there is fuel supply, better find somebody with tester to check the crank signal

Local LR specialist told me that because unburnt fuel can be smelt that rules the CPS out ?
He claims its fuel related ( delivering fuel to the injectors but not at the correct pressure )
The YouTube videos confirm that too .
