"Solenoid' Thing beside fuel filter assy??

Hi all- totally new to this so thought i'd give it a go for some help! Ive just changed the fuel pump and filter on my freelander 1 ( 2006 under the wheel arch ) today and noticed a part within the filter/pump assy that i'm puzzled what it is. It has 2 wires to it and looks like a form of solenoid with a pipe going in and out of it? it has a slot to mount it within the assembly, but when you slide it from the slot its actually nothing to do with the filter/pump/separator assembly. Hoping someone can give me some info what this is and what it does? Many ta's in advance!

It's the dedicated fuel pump for the fbh. (Fuel Burning Heater)
