sodding earth wire

The near side earth is terminated on the block not the head.

Look for a smallish treaded hole on in a post protruding from the block to the left of and slightly below the n/s engine mount. Can't say the exact position or size of the screw as I'm many miles away from my disco at the moment. But look in the online parts book it may or maynot show the position + size.

I've always found an easy and convenient place for the engine block/gearbox ground strap is under one of the bellhousing bolts.
Another very good place to fit the ground strap is under one of the starter motor mounting bolts.
The best kind of wiring I've found for the strap is the heavy duty woven stuff, about an eighth of an inch thick and about three quarters of an inch or an inch wide. Soldered at each end and a hole drilled to fit the bolt.
Another grounding method which I've seen in the past is a short-ish strap connected one end to the engine mounting bolt and the other end to the chassis mounting bolt across the rubber of the engine mounts.
