hi ive just looked quickly to see if i could see the slabs ecu behind the glovebox, ive found a little black box thats been added and i dont no what it is, its not landrover, its got no writting on it or numbers and looks home made, the box is about 3 inches long 2 inches wide and an inch thick it as 4 screws holding the lid on and is just pushed behind the wiring loom to hold in place, 1 wire comes from the 8 mm on back of alternator and it looks like one red wire coming in is live, the others look like they have been put in to the wiring on the slabs ecu, for example the yellow and white wire as been cut in half and this box goes on to each end, it looks like it could be changing readings or something like that into the ecu, the wires are going into the second terminal block back from the bulkhead, i think c0504, but could be c0655, will have a better look in the day light

ive managed to upload photos of black box, it as 7 wires going to it, black earth, red added 5 amp fuse holder in fuse box under bonnet,blue off the back of alternater,yellow and yellow/black goes between cut white/yellow wire in slabs ecu, white and white/black goes between cut white/blue wire in slabs ecu, it looks like they go into c0504 on slabs, does anyone have any ideas

The White/Yellow wire goes to the instrument pack for the HDC warning light.

The White/Blue wire goes to the instrument pack for the TC warning light.

It looks as though someone has installed a 'home-made bodge' relay board to disguise an ABS fault.

So that the dash warning lights light-up when the ignition is switched-on and go off when the engine starts.

Have a look and see if the White/Red wire from C0233-3 has also been interferred with, as this is the feed to the ABS warning light.

.

Thanks for the info, its not in the white/red wire, I've only found this box because I've got the abs light on constantly, the computer said front right sensor, and after looking the hub was shot, replaced hub and sensor from scan 4x4, but the computer wouldnt reset the light off, so fitted another hub and two different sensors but the computer still says signal low from front right sensor, I was going to check the resistance at the slabs plug for all four wheels, all the sensors read the same which is in its limit, so I was going to make sure there wasn't a wiring fault,

IMO PaulMc is spot on...and you'll not succeed with your diagnose untill that "emulator" is there, cos it is there to hide an ECU fault i suppose

Can anyone tell me what the slabs ecu part number should be v8 disco 2 2000, I believe that there was a recall to change the ecu, then New unit was ment to be less sensitive

From Microcat -

Code:
Part Number From VIN To VIN

SRD100461     up to ->        (V)XA227049
SRD100462     (V)XA227050     (V)2A736339
SRD000070     (V)2A736340     (V)2A999999
SRD000150     (V)3A000000     -> onwards
SRD500070     (V)4A000001     -> onwards
According to Britcar,the latest part number (SRD500070) supersedes all the earlier part numbers -

Britcar (UK) Ltd > SRD500070 ABS ECU DISCO11 (G)

that was for NAS vehicles up to XA .... so 1999, not the case here... if you want to go for a replacement ECU go for SRD100462 u can get good used units from reliable scrappers

e.g http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-TD5-ABS-ECU-SRD100462-/330808423879 ... but dont be angry on me if it doesnt work though

In a nutshell: the only noticeable difference is between the first unit(100461) and all the others cos the first unit had some software issues which were eliminated by LR on all next units.. then between100462 and 000070 no difference just the superceded part number, the same for 000150 and 500070(these are for facelift)... the difference between 100462(or 000070) and 500070 is that the in the latest there is a circuit which stops the TC and HDC warnings to come on when central diff is locked. BUT this small difference might come in conflict with older BCU's and IDM's... cos these have supported some small mods too later... problems could appear in behaviour if central diff is locked or some diagnostic comunication issues related to SLS. My advice is to go for the proper unit unless you have your own T4 to override possible issues... it's quite complicated and there are various elements to take into account...but i'll stop here with the explanations

But wait maybe you get some better advice;)

From experience the SRD500070 is the unit that sorted out all the problems the earlier cars had,LR tried rather craftily to flog off all the old ones even when the 500070 was on sale too.
If you ask for a new one now they ALL go over to 500070 now,there are NO issues with fitting them to earlier cars,I've done loads of them with Testbook and had no problems.

so we are getting to something here ... du you see what i mean now???

it's easy to tell that there are no probs as long as you own a T4 which will sync. the units "on his own" . :(

for those who dont understand this friendly polemic ... Testbook = T4 = dealer's diagnostic machine which can go deepest into the "brain" of all LR systems;) ...more than any "emulators" like nanocom/hawkeye/etc

I cant see why you want to complicate the issue,Testbook will only allow switching between coils or SLS, I had a look on my Autologic this morning aswell,same deal.The Autologic also goes through a vey similar process of setting up a new unit,removing the new ecu flag and writing in a VIN etc.
There is no reason at all to not use the SRD500070.They are much more tolerant of poor signals from hub sensors than earlier numbers,it was one of the helpful chaps at LR dealer Technical support that put me onto them,before most of the dealers knew about the fix they offered.Back when the cars were just out of warranty we,(Independants - and main dealers) had awful problems in sorting out Slabs issues.Most of which were fixed by the new ecu.And NOT by the stupid sensor leads going right back to the ecu mod. Other dignostic tools,esp those from Blackbox may give more options to edit settings,but Testbook and Autologic only offer the above.
