Just a quick one. I am getting some nice new shiney silicone hoses. The company on eBay sell td4 hose kits, one for td4 with sensor and a two piece for td4 without the sensor.

Not really a mechanic so can anyone enlighten me where this sensor is so I can check which set I need.

Dave

when i changed mine (only to original black rubber) i just bought the earlier two piece kit and then cut the longer intercooler pipe into two pieces and used the original sensor, couldn't see the point of spending 40 quid for a hose with a sensor i didn't need when a hose without the sensor was 19 quid ;)

markyzs180 - I did the same - typical Scotsman eh?

The 2 piece kit was cheaper so I just cut the long pipe at the right place to give me three pieces the right size.

I bought the pretty blue silicone pipes though. No gaylander comments please!

I also upped the spec of the hose clamp on the EGR by-pass to a T-bolt one, as that joint always has trapped oil and after a long hard days motorway trip it tends to weep - only a tiny amount - but it's a bloody nuisance.

The standard air intake hose is also poor - mine seemed to have been cut a little short at the factory - kept on slipping off - so that is now a blue silicone air duct hose.

My aircraft workshop training showing - my engine bay is spotless - makes for easy and early spotting of any leaks or other probs.

The outside is a different story - I need to do a mile and a half off-road just to go to the shops.

But I'm a Brummie :p

I also found that with that little bit of extra length on the intercooler pipe it fitted better and forces it away from the screw that the old pipe rests against and eventually wears through so a double saving :D

Brilliant - I found that too!

Are you sure you're from Brummingham?

My mate from Alvechurch who used to work in 'the Austin' as he calls it always says he has a lot in common with us Aberdonians. He was always fabricating his own spares rather than buying OEM parts.

ahhh....fabricating......hmmmm....seem to recall that was the term used for the, ahem, scrap parts in your bag on the way out of the austin lol

Does anyone know off the top of their head what size jubilee clips are needed when I replace my hoses. It was recommended that I use the t bolt style ones. Jut thought I would ask incase anyone knows with out me taking them off to measure them.

The only one I put a 'T' bolt clamp on was the 90 degree bend one where it connects to the EGR by-pass. 64 - 67mm and 20mm wide. This is where oil may gather and seep through the joint if it's not super tight.

Be careful as 'T' bolt clamps do not cover such a big range as Jubilee screw drive ones do. Look carefully at the ones you've got and the size should be written on them. Hopefully no need to take them off. You may be better to wait until the shiny new hoses are in your grubby mitts before ordering any clips.

In my experience the 'T' bolts are not needed on any of the other joints.
I may be wrong and it's an optical illusion, but the 90 degree hose is a little bigger than the others.

If you are getting new Jubilee clips be sure to get the ones that are 12mm wide - not the cheaper 9 or 10mm ones.

I hope there's a piccy coming after all this.

Singvogel :D

Nothing wrong with being a Brummie, long live Perry Barr.
