:dnfnoob:

now that i don't like

iv only just started to using veg oil this weekend in my 200tdi, not to save money but because i keep being told how good landys run on it.
i put 30l of diesel and 18l of veg oil, after just 6 mile it sounded quieter, ran smoother and the next day on the motor was even better :D

but now i know my disco runs well on veg and i can save on my fuel bill :D

wife happy when she has more money to spend :D

when she happy i get :lvlove-160:.... so im happy :D

so as you said...... Outside the UK, none of you understand the terminology describe to you !!

we do !! :mooning:

so i think its about time to

:your_wrong:

OK...Im new to this veggie thing, so be gentle... (Oh, & I'm talking SVO, not WVO/bio)...oh, & incase I confuse anyone;) ppl = pence per Litre

I glanced at this thread yesterday, and whilst in Tesco yesterday afternoon, & seeing some 3l veggie oil bottles at 2 for £5, bought a tenners worth....<counts on fingers'n'toes)... 83ppl, V's 120ppl for forecourt Diesel (Cheapest I seen locally this week....although I did see one garage selling at 126ppl!) So a minimum saving of 37ppl, or upto 43ppl cheaper.

I see some comments that Rapeseed oil is "best" why is this?....simply a higher calorific value?

I might pop back into Tesco on the way home & grab some more SVO....Given the choice of Sunflour oil, or Rapeseed oil, I should go for the rapeseed?.....

I *THOUGHT* rapeseed oil was a little acidic side & used to attack certain seals?

Im all ears! (to advice!)...enlighten me!

Rapeseed oil is a bit thinner ,so less likely top cause problems with fuel filter. Also its a bit cheaper. Some people say avoid any additives like anti-foaming, stick to 100% oil.I put 2 ltr petrol in half tank 50/50 mix to thin it down.

just a quick question, how do you all mix up your SVO diesel, in a big jerry can, or does it have to be stirred, or agitated more, ie. drill with stirrer

i have been reading this thread with great interest, and am thinking of giving it a go after the next filter/oil change

cheers

I just pour the SVO straight in to the tank then maybe stick some diesel on top :)

You're welcome to continue using it mate, that's your thing. :) I would only use it as a last resort, that's all. I know that on the upcoming 3500klm drive up north in a few weeks time, I'll be using proper diesel. ;)

I dunno here we got a bloke who's used to crossin vast distances not wantin to use veg oil instead of Doosel in case he breaks down.......?

At least you could siphon yer tank n get a barbie goin tho eh? :D:D:D

Dont fit your new fuel filter before you start on veg. You will need to change it after first 300-500 miles on veg because it strips all the crap out of the system .It will run alot better after that. ;)

Is that the sediment filter (rear wheelarch), "Proper" Fuel-filter on bulkhead, or both??

Like Palace says just pour it into the tank direct.

Im pretty sure I have read on here that svo can drag through some of the existing crap in your system from years of doozil use so it may be worth putting some in before your next filter change too :)

Just to throw a few facts into the equation

(1) I was advised by one of the UK's most respected diesel injection specialists not to put veggie oil of any sort into a TD5.
(2) The same place also stated that whilst in the short term the 200/300Tdi engines do run quite well on a veggy/diesel mix in the long term you can end up having to rebuild the injection pump as the veggy oil damages the seals (they go hard and brittle)
(3) The veggy oil does tend to mess up all the components in the long term. Instead of lubricating, like diesel does it tends to gum up. They have stripped down pumps and injectors which were pretty goey inside.
(4) Their advice was not to use veggy at all, and if I wanted to run bio then make sure the injection pump was rebuilt using viton seals. This doesn't go hard and a bio/veggy mix should work well.

This all from a industry respected firm whose livelihood depends on supplying reliable goods and service.

I looked into veggy oil for my old 200Tdi offroader, (which has a rebuilt pump) and I have to say considering the prices at the time, and the fact you needed to mix it with derv, the savings seemed not worth it. Making your own bio diesel would be a more interesting way to go, perhaps.

Hey fellas!

My posts the other night were a fair bit of tongue in cheek, and after a few Bundy's I admit that I had misunderstood a few replies...that was my problem which was projected onto you and I apologise. :)

My missus got the ****s up royally because I'd been interstate for quite some time dealing with important and not-good family stuff (like mum being diagnosed terminally), and had just discovered where my new post with the cops was. She was FAR from compassionate, understanding, nor impressed about that, and was really being a selfish tart. We had a major d'n'm down the phone which went down like a lead balloon (ie I broke it off). Afterwards, I'd smashed a few rums down to unwind, done some stuff on my bike n the Landy, sorted some stuff around here and then stupidly logged in while still in a ****ty mood...I put my hand up to being an arrogant prick to a few of you and I apologise wholeheartedly.

I realise that some of us have different needs and ways of running our vehicles, and are interested in trying out new things, and good on you for that. While I'd personally never use bio-fuel for my needs and it is something I've been taught never to use, I'd like to retract my disgust for it and hear about your experiences with using it, as well as what techniques are involved to make it. Like I said earlier, each to their own, but I feel that I should do the right thing and hear out what you all have to say about the issue.

Once again, sorry for the stirring and hope that esp given the circumstances we can overlook it, move on and continue to share the knowledge of our speciality areas. :)
