Rubber Prop Shaft Doughnut......DEAD!!!

Just had this happen today with my prop do now looking for a 200tdi prop. Could I just swap the yoke from the UJ of my old prop and put it onto the 200tdi prop ? :violent:

No. You need a 200tdi or V8 prop. No ifs or buts.

The doughnut does stop a lot of sock battering the drive train though. There's no clunking in my 300tdi auto

My one (in my current landy and not my old truck I referred to in a previous post in this thread) is looking a bit tired so will be replaced with another.

I don't consider they wear badly enough to change to something that could potentially ruin my nice smooth auto drive.

Just fitted me a 200Tdi rear prop and a spacer, the old Flange was a C%^t to get off

Oh yes they are. Had a right drama with mine and that was with the diff taken out too!!

I'll turd that. I had to do mine twice as I blew the Diff. I presume the 200Tdi diffs are 10 spline?

Just had advisory about my donut, got it yesterday, change it at the week-end..

My 300tdi rubber donut after 300,000km is still working fine, and I have pushed everything to the limits with turbo and fuel pressure (and I drive it hard to 1.5bar at gear shifts). Sounds like its luck of the draw with these things failing, but one thing that is coming up time and again at forums, is that its not worth getting a non genuine product?
However, its seems that my rubber donut is now a little softened from oil so I am about to change it. I don't need the rest of the kit as everything is regularly maintained and kept clean. I try not to buy from Australian dealers as they are a rip off for parts. Problem is, I don't seem to be able to find anyone on the internet selling just the genuine donut? Does anyone know who sells just the genuine donut?

Mine was fitted in 2009 when we first got the D2 V8 on the road. 67k miles later and just after 2000 miles of heavy trailer towing in Holland and France it is still good.

Loads of rubbish out there, and MANY don't look at the fitting of it and put it on wrong.

Hands up those who didn't check on the correct fitting and who subsequently had a short donut life ?

The 3 chunky pads in the donut have to be in compression on drive and in tension on the overrun.

Otherwise you put all the drive stresses through the narrowest parts of the coupling, when then fails prematurely.

Being doing some re'searching' as to the probable causes of a vibration under load and was thinking prop shaft ujs. Having read this thread I'm having second thoughts.

Under load (accelerating etc) I'm getting a vibration between (roughly) 25 and 35 mph and was thinking prop shaft universal joints BUT could it be the doughnut ?

Comments/opinions welcome.

Spend 2 mins under the car having a look turn both props by hand and it will all become clear

Im gettin a judder when accelerating at low speed and 1 hell of a noise similar to a kid bike wheel with a card in. My doughnuts is ####ed but still driving is it this making the noise

it wont help - but dont worry - when it does fail, the noise of the prop hitting the underbody and ground will be a lot worse

Does prop have to cum off to fit doughnut.or can it be prized off then fitted whilst on at front still
