hi all,

I’ve done a search on the forums but not found anything much that can help me. The alarm on the rangy (P38) doesn't work.
Before I got it the guy said that he'd had it removed or detached due to issues. Sure enough there's sweet f.a. inside the key fob. Car opens from drivers door key ok, starts ok so i figure the immobilizer side of it has been removed somehow.

So, what i'd like to do is fit my own remote alarm to it, trouble is, i don't know where to look.
I've bought the RAVE cd and there's pages n pages of info, but no friggin' idea where to tap into.

Anyone done something like this before and can give me a heads up.

Cheers

I doubt it has been removed as it is an intergral component of the BECM.It probably has been disabled in the BECM settings. You will need a diagnostic tool to read and change the BECM settings and probably purchase a new remote from a LR dealership.

As John says the immobiliser/alarm is an integral part of the car but could be 'turned off' for certain markets. Well worth more investigation as the original fault could have been as simple as a duff RF receiver.

When you say you want to fit your own remote alarm to it, I assume that you want get the cdl system working again. If you actually want to get the alarm system working again then my advice would be to leave the alarm as it is now ie with the passive immobilization disabled (the immobilization system is prone to causing owners grief!). To get the cdl system working from a remote key fob then you need to get one from a dealer. Unless you are a software/electronics genious you will not be able to buy an alternative remote and get it talking to the becm.
