Does anyone know how to remove the driver's side air vent on the dash - looking at pics of new ones there seem to be tabs on the side keeping it in place, but the flange around the face of the vent would make it tricky to access these to release. Anyone achieved this? many thanks!

Use old/out of date credit or store cards and slip them in top and bottom to undo the clips.

As they are not a serviceable item it looks like u have a job on you hands if you want to do that and so get access to the clips, as shown in the pic of a pair for a D1 for sale on ebay, D2s are similar. clips for the whole unit are on the side and the vent grill pivots on plastic pins, u can see the hole for that on the side and it does pull out easy as I found when I tried to attach a mobile and its holder to it..

many thanks - used a credit card each side as suggested above and managed to pull the vent out fine - without breaking it - which is unusual for me! Still did not manage to locate the odd tapping noise in that area - someone suggested worn bushes on the shock, but it is a very localised tapping and the shocks are only a year old...
