Unfortunately, I had a crash in my P38 yesterday and it will most likely be written off. I had just had a rebuilt engine put in from Emmotts that has only done maybe 4k miles and was really nice and quiet.

Is it worth buying the car back from the insurance company and selling the engine?

Suppose there is lots of other stuff to take out as well. :)

Sorry to here that
as castor said get anouther p38 with duff engine swap all the good stuff over and have aload of spairs as well.

I would love to do the swap. Mrs B would not go for that. Spent as much on it as it costs to buy. The other problem is where to store 2 38s whilst I do it.

Finding somewhere for one may work and there is a few quids worth of stuff in it.

Depends on how much the insurance company want, don't accept the first price.

+1. or even the second or third - Haggle!

Get supporting evidence of current prices/comparable conditions/money spent on it, etc from Autotrader/thebay/pistonheads etc.

Then get it back (they may even just give it to you ;) - depends on the ins co) and break it.

Good luck.

How much he has spent on it is irrelevant for insurance purposes.

By the way I meant haggle on the write-off value, not just a buyback price. Years ago a daughter wrote off her Clio and was offered £500, we argued and showed comparable cars and eventually got £850.

Driving yesterday, had a collision with a Focus and it will be a write off. Just done the gearbox to go with the new engine too! Just taxed, jut MOT'd, just new tyres all around and new exhaust. Sad!

Oh dear tahts not so good! What was yours? I saw a nice grey one yesterday YY51 something around lunch time I actually thought it might have been yours!

Focus is now deceased. :p Unfortunately for him he bounced off me in to a fence and I stopped in the road.

No Q, mine was dark blue. :-(
