Rear halfshafts without drive flanges... HD?

Trying to work out if a friend of mine has uprated rear halfshafts on his 90.

They are early 24 spline rears that use a thick drive flange, but the drive flange is not attached to the half shaft.
I thought all 24 spline rear shafts had integral drive flanges? Which would make these ones aftermarket at least? The only engraving on them is a letter B right on the end

I think it is just the 90 that has one piece half shafts as standard, 110/130 have shafts plus separate members so it could either be an aftermarket modification kit or standard 110/130 bits?

Mine's a 90 and had separate half shafts and drive flanges from the factory. Some of them did, after about VIN 4A or so. I can't remember the exact change point. Having said that, I hear some people are fitting the earlier integral unit to later models as that means there's one less set of splines to wear out.

my 90 has separate drive flanges on da rear innit.

Just been looking and I believe the shafts with integral drive flanges were fitted as standard from LA930456 to 4A671162. So if it's outside this range it would probably have had separates from new.

Mines a 'TA' with integral flanges so that would make sense.

Quick follow up, can I fit the halfshafts which take a thick drive flange along with a thick drive flange to my TD5 axles, which originally take a shorter shaft with thin flange?

not using std parts

Why is that? Is the bolt spacing different on the flanges? And is there any parts out there that are suitable to do it?

only length of bolt alters between the 2 flanges ,but the shorter shaft iis shorter because stub axles and hubs are to apart from that long shafts are 10 spline, after market shafts and flanges are available

So do I just need a pair of aftermarket thick flanges? I have a pair of early rear ashcroft shafts which obviously I am quite keen to fit, just not sure how!

my 2004 defender td5 had separate ends out of the factory , when I picked it up it had hideous backlash so I replaced them with 300tdi one piece halfshafts

instant better driving experience and no problems since , I would recommend it to anyone
