How much play if any should there be in the rear diff mounts? It is starting to knock when at low speed changing from 1st to 2nd. i tried to move the prop shaft and there is no movement there at all, so go a bar to the rear diff and it moves a touch???

Have you tried the diff mounts too?

What do you mean? Basicly all i did was get underneth and gave the prop shaft a good tug, and that was soild in all directions. So then i went to the back and tried to move the rear diff by hand, it seamed ok so then i got a bar to see if it had any play with a bit more force, when i bared it it did move back and forth maybe an inch. How do you check the rear mounts?

Sorry, meant, "have you tried the vcu mounts"!

Use the same method on those.

Do any of the mounts look perished?

The two rear mounts look fine, none of the rubber looks cracked or perished, the front one is harder to see, I have not tried a bar on the vcu mounts though, i just tried moving the prop by hand and looked at the vcu mounts when i did this and could not see any play there. After doing some reading on here it sounds like the rear diff front mount, so i might just change it and see what happens as its a cheap part and looks easy enough to do.

Its easy to change. Don't disconnect the prop shaft, just unbolt the front mounting, take out the bolt through the center of both rear mountings and push the diff to the side so you can get the front mounting out and the new one in. Bolt it all back up.

When doing this does the rear diif need to be help up with an axel stand?

Thanks
