hello Range Rover 2006 4.2 petrol battery drain problem
Could someone give some advice or drop can topology wiring diagram.
Problem is battery is draining , CAN doesn't go to sleep. After 40 mins battery drain 440 mA
Disconnected suspension ecu battery drain goes a little bit down 330 mA but still too high
when ignition is on CAN waveform on diagnostics plug - brilliant as soon as I turn ignition off can signal goes all over the place. Could someone advice something please?

Just a thought,D3 and RRS can take up to 16 mins for all the ecu's to shut down and just take a sleep current.During that time there is allsorts going on with large current draws - have you waited long enough while monitoring ?

I been waiting 40 mins sir.
After ignition off CAN signal is all over the place , I think it could cause fault in tarnsmission CAN signal between modules. Thats why doesnt go to sleep. Just a thought.

Are you able to read accurate fault codes from the car ? There should be a pattern to be seen if one or more modules have problems shutting down, the codes will often show up in multiple places.Viewing door switch states etc,as live data can also be a help. The BCM for instance may be waiting to see all the panels closed before shutting down.

Just a query, but could the fact you have something plugged into the Diagnostic Socket be it a scope, OBD Scanner, Testbook or some other device initiate a 'communication' on the CAN and thus why it won't go to sleep...

I do know on the L322, if you leave the OBD Cover open this can drain the battery....if you take a gander at the OBD cover on the L322 it has a couple of contacts, that tell the systems to fully sleep...with the OBD open, some systems remain awake and have been known to cause drained batteries...

Hate to point to another forum but there are reports and discussions on this over on fullfatrr.com

The Poster called Stan seems to be very clued up on the OBD Cover issue!

Made a profile just to help you ! As I had exact the same problem today and it took me the whole day to sort things out! But I found it! It was a sticky switch to open the rear window (tailgate). I just unplugged the switch and my meter went down from 0.47A to 0.06A! Will fit a new switch tomorrow. Gut luck, I hope I've helped you.

Think the original OP may have sorted the issue since last year !
