Hi all,
I'm on the island of Jersey where I don't think we have any places that can do an ECU remap. From what I understand the 2001 Discovery 2 ES needs a physical chip change before it can be remapped, so a visit to a proper remapping company is essential.

Paying for a ferry to the UK, then the remap on top would be too pricey, so I'm considering the MM 4x4 PSI power pack system as a fairly decent halfway house to get a few more ponies out the old TD5, as well as maybe some better fuel economy.

Has anyone had any experience with these units, and are they any good? I was going to do it along with a decat pipe, K&N filter and have already on the EGR blanking mod.

Failing that - are there any other plug-in modules I can do myself that could give me a boost?

Thanks in advance!

ha! Overseas people keeping their cash in Jsy gives them a tax break, but us locals have to pay a fortune to live here. Loaf of bread? £1.20 at least, tiny studio apartment with just 1 room? Over £200,000.
Shops tend to keep VAT on to cover 'costs of delivery', then stick on the local tax on top to add insult to injury.

But yeah, if you live in London and have millions, keeping it here can be more 'tax efficient'....

to get the best results I would suggest a proper setup by a company who knows there stuff

summit that's plug n play is gonna be one size fits all and may not be tuned properly to your motor, all engines will be different in bhp/torque the way they've been serviced etc.
I would prefer a drive in drive out service but its your Wonga waste it as you pls

Why don't you post the engine ECU to a mainland specialist such as Alive Tuning or Dynajet, for the re-map?

...and be aware than any power tuning u choose is just half job without a performance intercooler... imo and from my experience off course

Good plan - just had a look into this and yes, dynajet can do it for £250 quid which is pretty good.

I've found there are a couple of people locally who say they may be able do it. Can the stock ECU actually be remapped? I thought the chip needed to be replaced in the ECU...

If I can get it done locally, I suppose that would be a better job as I have done the EGR removal, and am about to stick in a de-cat pipe and K&N, so a more customised program.

I don't think my budget can stretch to the intercooler just yet - maybe in the future!

Hi all, just coming back to this one. Turns out my ECU is one of the models with the 'MSB' serial number, which is non-programmable and apparently are a nightmare to actually tune even once you've soldered on a replacement chip.

So, options are I guess to swap the ECU for a later type if I pick one up from ebay - but will this cause me problems? I'm thinking key codes, older looms working with newer ECUs, etc? Is there a particular ECU I should be looking for for a 2001 Disco 2 ES automatic?

Or, or course there's the old PSI power pack or 'Chip Express' piggy-back pack, but it seems a half-baked solution.

Cheers

go for that without any fear Land Rover Discovery 1998-2001 TD5 SPORT Remap Chip - Fit Yourself Kit | eBay i used it myself and works perfect... you must call or email the guy with the ECU number and you'll get the proper chip, you can choose sport or economy, as i had a spare ECU i have them both... if you dont have experience and special chip soldering equipment you'll just have to find somebody to remove the old chip and solder you the chip's socket, but any electronist can do that for small money... it's a much better option than a power pack which just tricks the injectors believe me

think we might be missing something here, overall speed limit is 40 mph isnt it? Even an unchipped TD5 auto can manage that with a 3500 kg trailer so is there any point?
