Hi Folks,

I'm considering buying a Land Rover to use for for my plumbing business and I've found this one:

Vehicle page

Can anyone offer any thoughts about it from what you can see in the advert please?

Thanks for any help.

Update 29/11/2013. The dead link was to a white 1999 'T' reg 110 300Tdi hard top, which looked very straight, for £6250 on a small dealer's website.

Thanks, I thought it looked quite expensive but I'm new to Land Rovers (in recent times, having worked on them for the MoD as an apprentice 30 years ago) and they do seem to hold their value very well.

Yep, probably a bit on the high side pricewise, but it does look unusually straight, and of course its a 300Tdi which IMHO is the best engine you can put in a Landy.

I'd be tempted to go have a look and try and knock a chunk out of the price if its as good and rot free as it looks.

i'd be wanting a galv'd chassis for those prices.

have a look at ex utility 110 or 130's as well, they might be useful.

agreed, but lots more £££££££s I'd have a 130 twincab with a quadtec back tomorrow if I could afford one.

7-10k?

you can pick up crewcab 130s for 4-5k and the quadtec bodies pop up every now and again for <1k.. could be a cheaper way to do it

Thanks chaps. I've currently got a 2002 Berlingo which is fine, albeit showing its age a little, but I still fancy a Land Rover. My likely top budget will be around the £6-7000 area (Mrs J the P's considerations permitting).

A galvanised chassis is something I'd certainly prefer but I sometimes have access to a friendly local garage's two post lift so it's not too disasterous if I need to get underneath to keep a plain steel one well rustproofed.

A 90's loadspace is too small and the 110's a bit larger than the van's. A 130 would be too large for what I need.

I might as well also ask, are there any particular independent dealers it would be worth trying? I know where to try for a decent Subaru Impreza (and where not to - Bradford!), but I've no experience of Land Rover dealers.

Search.

Your not the first person ever to ask these questions.

No one likes repeating themselves.

If you are in the Bradford area there is Simonites Land Rover Parts, Accessories, Sales in West Yorkshire, UK - Simmonites - I have found them helpful and usually a number of vehicles on display. In Leeds there is 4plus4 For Plus 4 - again helpful and often a number of vehicles for sale.
I have used 4byfortyone just outside Wakefield — 4 x Forty One – Land Rover, Range Rover parts, spares and accessories - I bought my current 110 off Ray.
Also there is Jake Wright in Burley Landrover restoration and sales - Yorkshire, uk who is well known.

There are also a number of other garages in the Bradford/Halifax/Leeds area or not too far outside it. Everyone will have their favourite and one or two they have had a bad experience at.

Don't forget if they do not have what you are looking for ask them as they usually have 'sources' or may know of someone who knows of one etc...

Thanks, I'm near Leicester so those firms not too far away, but if there are any more local ones to me, I'd appreciate the heads up.

I've tried quite a bit of searching on here this morning and perhaps I'm putting in the wrong terms, but I've not really found much so far.

Again, thanks all for the help.

hope you find exactly what you want joe.

although perhaps you`ll never need to know this ??
I have an old but good J plate disco 200 7 seater,
ok, its fine, but as I have family inside londons LEZ low emissions zone,
my disco can enter - no restrictions,
but if I have bought the same vehicle as a van - I`d be fooked!! it dont pass the LEZ regulations.
I know of contractors who buy 7 seaters, take out (replaced for MOT) the seats,
get dark glass plastic stuff on side & rear windows and away..

just a thought mate.....

If your dead set on buying from a stealer then you could look a bit further afield. Craddocks have a second hand centre.

Your going to get a better price from a general garage than from a specialist as he will know exactly what its worth.

Know what your looking for(or take someone along who does) and get one private.

Or you could go ex utilities, I know a few electricians and even a plumber who have ex severn trent defended and use the roller shutters etc on the side for bits. Usually come with extra security locks etc so save you some money there, they get maintained often as well which is good.

Try these guys as well. not a million miles from us: Land Rover Defenders quality used land rover 90, 110 and 130 models
