The needle bearings in the tripod joint in the front prop shaft have failed.
Does any one know where to source a replacement joint. L/R in there wisdom have stopped doing the joint alone. As all the rest of the prop is in good order including the VCU, I am reluctant to have to buy a new front prop.
Has any one any thoughts on a repair rather than replace with new.

The problem is the tripod joint, which is the one on the front prop shaft, that looks like a can, that conects to the IRD. They have just 3 roller bearing like the ones on drive shafts, you can get the UJ joints for the other 3 but they have stopped selling the front ones, as you can sent the shafts off for a repair, the joint must be about but probably not listed for the freelander.

Ere's mine. Could you get a repair kit from someone like davemac_gripperlsd or remove yours and send it off for repair?

The grease and tie wrap method of putting it all back together after whacking it with a hammer when trying to refit to the prop shaft. Needle bearings flying everywhere at speed int much fun.

Island 4x4 shows the prop-shaft and CV joint For £158 + Vat and state that the CV joint can't be bought separately. You could try contacting GKN and ask if it can be supplied separately.
