Have you considered galvanising the chassi? It's not as expensive as you might think and will help it last as long as the rear of the disco by the time your finished.

Well after 11 hours of driving around ive finally got me v8!:D:D:D:D

Thanks bencorkill! Was good to meet you and take the motor off your hands:)

Heres the pictures! :D

To say im as happy as a pig in **** might be a bit of an understatement!

Just needs a really good clean! Oh and a megasquirt kit fitted :biggrin1:

Plan of action now
Remove the v8 from the chassis
Remove the axles and whatever is attached (not alot)
Strip back the chassis and paint!

Was good to meet you to mate! cant wait to see you get this done, 11 hours of driving! Ouch!!!! you know you/I forgot about exhaust DOH , you need and dimensions etc i will do mu best to measure them for ya. and thanks for waiting while i farted about with the gearbox haha

Mr Noisy yep its a mega mega rebuild but i want it done properly so she will last another 17 years if not more!
I was gonna start cleaning it this morning before work but it's now raining  bloody weather!
And it tis a shame your upp Norf! But yer never know i may venture up that way when shes finished :p

Discomark plan was just to megasquirt and fit it but whilst ive got access i may try and rebuild it.
Not that i have a clue where to start

Brian S i was thinking about getting it galved as a mate of mine knows the guys who run my local galvanisers very well. Still undecided whether i should or not though.

Ben driving was the biggest ballache of the day! Haha.
I remembered about the exhaust halfway down the M3  still measurements should be sufficient.
And honestly it wasnt a problem waiting for you to get the autobox off as it got me away from driving for a bit. :p

Now just need to hope and pray the rain buggers off so i can actually get outside and do something! :D

As far a i know the engine is sweet from the drive back, but if your gonna spend the £ on mega squirt i would rebuild it to maximise your gains, or do compression test and see where to go from there? im gonna start my rebuild next week and think i will be just as lost as you haha

Tis exactly my train of thought if im spending mega mullah on megasquirt may as well rebuild it whilst its out!
And fit the H180 camshafts from turner engineering ;)

Well, my advice is DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN WHILST ITS OUT

IF THE ENGINE HAS DONE MORE THAN 50k IT WANTS A NEW CAM, IF YOU CAN AFFORD AN UPGRADE CAM THEN PLEASE FIT ONE, IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A STANDARD CAM THEN PLEASE #### OFF WHY HAVE YOU GOT A V8?!!!?!

But yeah basically it'll never be as easy as this again mate and I know from the thousands of hours, the greasy fingernails, the aching hands and the smoking wallet that its far preferable to live like a tramp for a few months than to live like a slave to your car for a few years after you didn't fix everything whilst you could.

Absolute ####ing Godspeed to you mate because you appear to be going about this the right way so far but yes you will need all the help and reassurance you can get! :)

Cannot agree with you more! Yes the engine has done more than 50k so uprated cam it is!
Like i said im spending mega mullah on megasquirt so i do want the motor and everything else for that matter to be like new or better!

And i will be asking for a lot of help and reassurance about the engine dont worry about that;)

And anyway i dont mind living like a tramp for a few months

Good news that you are doing a rebuild! want my advice get it stripped n send of to be cleaned. You can do it yourself but its a long ass job and a pita. Oh and keep the con rod caps together! take lots of pics while stripping ;) lol

I will probably end up doing all the cleaning myself. Not that i mind.
As with most jobs on a land rover they end up being long and a PITA even the the ones you think are gonna be simple! :p

Cheers for the heads up on the con rod caps. And i do plan on taking plenty of pics!

Hello again chaps and chapettes.

Just for those of you who dont venture into the v8 section of the forum ive started a new thread for the engine build. Would rather keep engine related things separate. Especially as its getting megasquirted.

Anyways made some progress today removed the front axle from the chassis and started stripping it down ready for a refurb.

Radius arms, spring seats, panhard rod, calipers and track rod have been removed ready for a clean up and paint.

The rest is currently sat in the garage as im draining the oil at the minute ready to strip the rest down.

More to follow....... :D

You gonna do the wheel bearings? front right one defiantly has serious play in it! may just need tightening up

Wheel bearings will all be replaced. Serious play might be an understatement im surprised your still alive if you drove with it like that at 70mph!

To be fair most things will be getting replaced in the axles. Ashcrofts air lockers front and rear.
HD halfshafts
HD crownwheel and pinion
HD Drive flanges
HD cv joints
Oh and both diffs will be getting pegged.
Might be summit else but if there is ive forgotten
