Not as daft as it sounds.... I'm probably going to keep my FL1 now (as the mrs now uses the FL2) til next year and sell them both for a new Defender before they stop making them, as long as work allows me to... As many know, I use my blue one as a work "van" even though its a top spec 3dr, I like my comfort.

So, was thinking of removing the rear seats (they've been folded forward to behind the front seats for about 360 days out of the last 365), and plylining the floor. Has anyone done it before??? Just wanting to protect my carpet floor, then I can bond some non slip rubber matting to the plywood as well as having an extra 300mm or so of load length behind the seats.

Do the rear seat brackets bolt to the floor or are they welded in? You may have to raise the floor a bit to go over the top of them. I think the bars that the seats latch to when they're down are also a little raised.

The bars are bolted down with some torx bolts.

I bought a van interior off eBay. Floor and bulkhead bolt straight in. Side panels won't cos of seat back mounts. £50 for everything inc hard top

£50 really? I've got loads of plywood kicking about so was gonna use that, was going to just slot where the seat brackets are, as i'd be topping it in rubber anyway, might see if I can find some Commercial stuff on eBay...

I was quoted £180 to have it lined with chequer plate. I use it for plumbing and my tool boxes are going to destroy the rear eventually

Use the carpet as a template.

I'll just measure it and draw it out on a sheet of ply, want one for yourself? ;)

I'm going to have to rethink. A few weeks ago I removed the back seats & put some garden swing chair cushions in and the girlfriend and I went and watched a meteor shower. She liked it so much she wants to go camping in it!!!
Now I have to get a roof box for the luggage! And a van for work!!

Amazing how that happens, my lass hates Land Rovers, this week she sold her Fiesta and is going to use my FL2 instead!!

Is the FL1 big enough to sleep in comfortably? Long plyboard would still be good for a solid base to lie on...

Mine is a van. It measures 1.42m in the cargo bay, so not enough to sleep in :D

The divider is just behind the front seats, the car-wide floor support bracket is screwed to the floor (sticking out about a cm through the floor...)

Depends how tall you are:p:p:p
But did you spot George Clark's amazing spaces and the tuk tuk thing?

I'm 6ft, can just about get in with the passenger seat pulled right forward...

Had a massive idea over the weekend, so going to see a couple of D2's later in the week, cos i like inflicting pain on myself :D

They're so much bigger, so even bigger as a work van, and for camping in!

My 10mm ply has often a good 3/4 of a tonne on them in sand and cement, tools etc. Basically I did a T shape with some legs and using what was left from the 6x3 timber, then I had to put the base in in x2 half's left and right or I couldn't get it in without taking the back off.

Contrary to what I did remember the rubber mat is smaller than the 6inch lifted floor! I ended screwing extra bits on tut...

If you want to camp in it tho you could have another bit of ply that slides out from the back with some drop down legs (often contemplated making one as a work bench myself) and then get a tent that attached from the back...
