Every post pertaining to this particular subject matter, varies a little, allow me to post the specifics of my issue.

2011 Freelander 2 / LR2 / L359 / 3.2L DOHC MPI Petrol I6

Just recently, I can no longer unlock, or open, from neither inside nor outside, the Drivers side, REAR door, (the door directly behind the Drivers door).

As seen in the pictures, the physical lock, (A), can not be moved, it is frozen in locked position, (in).

And if I use either dash buttons, (B, C), you can hear that there is still the same mechanical sound as always inside that door, as though you should be seeing it open and lock, but it just isn't doing anything.

The window works on that door, and all other doors on the vehicle still work perfectly, just not that one.

Without being able to open the door at all, one wonders how any repair could even be implemented.

If you can hear the motor trying to move chances are the cable is damaged somehow.
If you undo the screws, one behind the little cover in the handle recess and I think two bigger ones on the handle, you should be able to pull the top of the door card out far enough to have a look down.
Lower the window first and you should see a red or white plastic clip that sits in recess behind handle.
Good luck.
Having read Nodges reply it may be more than the cable. However if you can gain access as explained you should be able to pull the end of the wire, it has a little T-piece to pull and unlatch the door.

Sounds like the common problem with these. They are normally intermittent for some time, before they fail completely.
It needs a new door actuator/lock assembly, but getting it out while the door is closed is very hard, but not impossible. Removing the door trim is a challenge, but not impossible. The fun starts when you can access the actuator/ lock assembly.
