freelander 2 td4 2007 oil leak

I have just purchased a freelander 2 td4 to go alongside my FL1 TD4 which I love.
The new to me FL2 has a few issues I am working through.
The car has an oil leak from the front passenger side. I haven't removed the bumper yet but reading threads the seal on the pipes going to the intercooler can fail. You can hear a bit of a whilstle as you rev the engine.
should I change the pipes or the intercooler, or both?
I also noticed when starting from cold this morning, whilst moving on to my two post lift, it spluttered a bit of oil/ water out the exhaust.
It had been sat a few days.
turbo seems to be producing lots of power, so I am hoping its just condensation in the back box? any thoughts

Oil visible from the front RH side will be the intercooler end cap seal leaking, which requires a replacement intercooler. You might a as well do the boost hoses while doing the intercooler, as the bumper will need to come off to access it.
The spluttering when cold with smoke will be the glow plugs. They fail for a past time as they're used a lot to reduce emissions on this engine. My glow plugs began to fail at about 2 years, resulting in spluttering and a puff of smoke on starting.

I did think I had a glow plug problem as well, When it was -3 last month it took an age to start. Thanks I was thinking the oil out the back might be turbo. When you say right hand side , is that when stood in front of the bonnet looking towards the steering wheel? as mine is a RHD car and is leaking on the passenger side which is left hand side when sat in the drivers seat facing forwards. RH side is the right of the car when sitting in the driver's seat. With a leak on the left, it can still be the intercooler, as either end cap can leak.
I'd get the lower plate off to take a look for the source of the leak.

I will get the car up on the ramp over the weekend and take off the undertray, to see where the leak is. One thing that I don't understand is why there is oil in the intercooler pipes? does this indicate a slight leak from the turbo? Plus I have read that there is an upgraded ford part from a focus which might be a better bet than the original intercooler. Is this correct and does anyone have a part number, please

There is always oil in the boost hoses and pipes. A large majority comes from the breather where it's connected to the intake pipe between the air filter and turbo intake. If the filter is clogged by dirt or damp, the turbo will draw quite hard on the breather, pulling oil into the intake.
There will be a small amount of oil spun out from the turbo bearings, but nothing compared to the the breather contribution.
