please be gentle

Hi everyone.
I am a recent freelancer owner having acquired one for my better half now we have a ten month old son and associated clutter to transport about.
It has developed a clunking sound recently around the front end I think.. I cannot pinpoint as to when it does it though I do think it is slightly more frequent when turning right. I have been underneath but cannot see anything amiss though it all looks very complicated to me as I personally run a 20 year old D1 200tdi with big bolts and girders making up the suspension.
From searching this forum some people seem to have problems with the anti roll bar but I wouldn't of thought this could be causing my issue as It can clunk even on a straight flat road ... Could it.
What else should I be looking at, any pointers would be helpful. Thanks

ARBs can knock at any time really... Worth checking the bushes and the drop links too.

Id say its the cheapest fix to do first, I had it confirmed with a £40 inspection, which gave me the heads up on a few bits and pieces

Try drop links first.... Cheap and easy...... If that doesn't cure it, could be the wishbone bushes or the ball joints.

Replaced mine with a complete wishbone assy that came already fitted with the bushes and ball joints...... Quiet now

On going saga.Replaced both wishbones and all associated bushes along with arb bushes and lower engine mount which was flapping about in the breeze on close inspection.Aint done droplinks as they look pretty new.The bloody knocking is still there.Any more ideas?

Wobble the headlight lens up and down to see if they is loose.

Is your ARB centered? It has a tendency to slip from side to side even with new bushes if worn.

X2 should have a bit of plastic next to antiroll bar bush to stop the bar moving side to side. They often fall off. Re centralise and but a couple of jubilee clips on to stop it moving. Bet a pound that's what it is

Ive had this problem on two Freelanders i owned. Didnt even know about the plastic that was supposed to be there. I used some 22mm handlebar mirror clamps to lock it in the right position.

The lower engine mount connects to a bracket that also holds the IRD - I think its actually a damper. Could be that th IRD has been replaced at some point. I doubt its that that is lose - but some people do remove the roll bar and cross member to get it out - so I'd make sure they both look correctly and firmly attached.

This is probably because my life is (almost) totally consumed by my Freelander's IRD at the mo, but I wouldn't put it past being 'wind up' in the IRD itself and the clonking is a gear slipping. You could rmove the prop shafts (easy 20 min no cost job) and see if it stops.

If you still have a knock check the the lower calliper slider bolt still has the rubber sheath on it. Seen loads that that don't as it's a bugger to get back into the slider hole. I have fixed a few like this with a few raps of electric tape.

Take a drop-link off the car to check for play - I've had to do this in the past to find wear in the links

Poor quality drop links can fail quickly, might be goosed but look shiny. Also worth checking track rod ends, ive had to replace mine twice in 4 years.
