Pistion rings

Hi all does anyone know who sells piston rings for the TD5 . i can get pistions with rings but i dont need pistions and they are expensive . its for a 15P35394A defender engine .

any info would be great

ok i thought some one must know ...

how about a place that rebuilds engines ??

Paddocks spares

Was having a look through the Rimmer Bros booklet last night and they had 2 different Piston Rings listed for TD5's could give them a try.

Why not phone them up and ask? Chances are that one set is OEM and the other will be Britpart or similar.

ok that makes sense ..but are the 10p rings interchangeable with the 15p and the other way around ??

Yes the rings are interchangeable the pistons are identical. Its the injectors and the injector cam profiles that are different and a few ancilliary bits and bobs for emmissions etc.

good to know . i have three engines that need at least rings and bearings but one is 10p and the others are 15p so i could just order the same rings for all

You might even get a bulk sale deal on the price. Worth asking. How come so many dead engines?

yea i may get a deal ,didnt think about that . only one of the engines is dead(ex Trinidad Police) and one has over 200,000 miles on it and its giving some backpressure and the last one im not too sure whats wrong(bought the defender but its not here in Trinidad yet ) but i know it runs .

All becomes clear. Thought it may be your driving style that was killing them. The TD5is a well built mechanically solid engine which if looked after will go pretty much forever.
My old engine had done 120,000 miles when the oil pump sprocket fell off and fragged the top half of the engine. It had also been running with diesel in the sump oil for two years as I could not afford a new cylinder head. When I stripped it down to have a look at the damage the bottom end, including the bores were pristine with no excessive wear marks. In fact the short block is now running in an engine over in Tanzania with no issues and a lot of the other parts went to Kenya for refurb.
