why my air conditioning fan runs after the engine is turned off even though my air conditioning hasn't been used since last fall. Sometimes it will run until I hear a click under the passenger seat and then it will shut off and all is well. But often it will run even after the click (of a relay, I presume) and well, it is a pain in the backside. Plus, it drains the battery.

If you are not Saint and you know why my motor suffers such a malady, please feel free to expound upon the issue.

Cheers.

Though they all do this at some point to clear condensate.

I last had a fall on Tuesday last ..copper pipe offcut, I nearly broke a buttock :D

Probably shouldn't do that no, but a faulty component may elicit the run on, i'm guessing evaporator but I could equally guess low tyre pressures..

On the P38 V8s the aircon fans may run after the ignition is switched off in an overheat situation. Maybe your classic has the same feature.

Wammers and Cooltide are correct. the Condensor Fans run when the coolant temperature exceeds a set value to aid in cooling as well as in their normal mode which is to aid the A/C system in condensing the refrigerant and expelling heat.

If they are running for so long the battery drain, it may be worth checking out the relay that runs the fans, it could be sticking, or the temp sensor is shagged.

What year Classic are you rolling?

It's a 93 4.2 and it will stop if I pop the bonnet and disconnect the battery for a moment and then reconnect it.

Sounds suspiciously like the fan timer relay under the seat is playing up. I have seen this happen when playing around with an ECUmate, had to pull the relay to stop the fans.Never did get to the bottom of it but anyway my reading of various manuals etc suggests on a Classic the condenser fans run on after the system is switched off in normal use. I suspect you may have an electrical short somewhere or a failed sensor associated with the A/C. The quick fix would be pull the relay. Not sure if the relay will be in the same place as mine but it is a tall green relay positioned next to the fuel injection power relay and the fuel pump relay under the drivers seat, so I guess on a left hooker that'll be under the front passenger seat.

Cheers Kev. I'll check it out.
