89 110 with Salisbury axle with drum brakes.

Oil leaking out dust cap and covering the wheel.....

I presume theres a seal in the stub axle that seals the driveshaft /stubaxle.

Anyone know the part number.

:)

no seal in stub axle till 300 tdi models ,new caps are frc4377 and check axle breather

Its just the hub cap leaking, check Paddocks they do them from around a £1 each.

Just replaced my hub seals, these just keep axle oil out of the bearings, there was no shaft seal tp stop axle oil running down the shaft splines to the hub cap.
The cap the just stops oil leaking out on the wheels.
Also check your axle breather tube and union, if block the oil leaks due to back pressure.
Mine was clogged. :)

There's a seal under there isn't there? Does that not have anything to do with leaking onto wheel?

I've got same at mo, but been putting off a tear down. If it's just the cap, I'll replace that tomorrow before work

only 300 tdi on use seal in stub axle to stop oil reaching wheel bearings and drive member, earlier oil can run through and lubricate splines ,why you get more half shaft /drive member wear on 300 tdi models on

Just the cap, that seals oil from leaking onto wheels.
As stated though if cap looks ok, axle can be pressurising due to clogged breather.
Caps harden and age though and are so cheap its worth replacing them every year anyways. :D

Cheers....

I'll have a look at the breather, never thought of that.

Only leaks at one side and I've had the cap off and it looked fine. Theres next to no oil inside the cap at the other side thats what made me think seal.

fair enough. Will take a look. Might be an excuse to fit extended breathers ;)
