done 1200 miles on my 2000 4.0 p38 since bought

1 st problem encountered

it wont start - just turns over quickly - like no fuel/spark

garage say the immobilser in the ecu has armed itself and wont un-arm

key gets me intot he car but wont start it

apparently cure is to send ecu away and get the immobilser circuit removed and then it will be fine once fitted

cost £300

any bright ideas - anyone esle had this

Isn't there a way of inputting a code using the key in the drivers door or something so many turns to left so many to right etc etc I think you request it from the dealer / landrover or something....but I might have dreamt it!!

That sounds fishy and something Ive never heard of in all the time Ive spent on forums around the place.

Have you got the vehicle now?!? When you turn the ignition on (put key in and turn to the second notch) and all the lights show does the CHECK ENGINE light show up or not??

If it doesn't the BeCM has likely lost its security code sync with the engine ECU. In this case its a simple process of hooking up a diagnostic computer like Autologic or Rovacom or Testbook, pressing a couple of buttons, code is re-synched and vehicle will start.

Has the battery gone flat recently and the problem started after this??

The £300 sounds completely wrong in my opinion and is a way of getting you to fork out that ammount when all thats needed is a simple hook up to their diagnostic machine.

Go and see if the check engine light illuminates when you turn the ignition on. I take it also when you say the car unlocks ok with the key you mean that it unlocks ok with the remote??

it doesnt say check engine when ignition is on

yeah its unlocks on the fob

will take a closer look

Ok, if you unlock the car with the remote then put the key in and turn it to the second notch, i.e. all lights glowing in the instrument panel and the amber check engine light doesnt show Im pretty sure that is the reason its not starting (assuming the engine ECU hasnt been removed by the mechanics or anything). As I said the light is amber, it will be on the RIGHT of the little amber light showing the vehicle with the up arrow for the suspension. If you see no amber engine light then this will be the problem.

What you need to get them to do is resync the security code between the engine ECU and the BeCM. This is around a 2/3 minute job with Rovacom/Testbook/Autologic and to be honest I know my specialist wouldnt charge me if I needed it doing, however, some garages might charge a small fee to do it. The diagnostic computer is the ONLY way to get the BeCM and the engine ECU to resync though.

Going on the symptoms you have posted im pretty sure you will find once this has been done the vehicle will fire right up and you will be £300 better off.

Of course I could also be wrong and there might be a more serious problem but the 'remove the immobiliser' line is a load of BS.

Post back with how things go!

so - - got the EAC and it made no difference

auot electircian reckons that some gizmo/ecu under the seat has stoped talking to some gizmo/ecu on the engine

dont think i can afford main dealer prices - any one any ideas - NOTTS area

It does sound like the security link twixt BECM/Motronic engine ECU has been lost. This is 2 mins work on Testbook, look for poor connections in the multiplug in the loom under the coolant expansion tank,or water getting into the loom in the sill area under the plastic trim on the rh door opening.
Not bothered to work out how or if it has an effect but upgrading to the later YWY500170 RF receiver has helped allsorts of battery drain/non start/immobiliser issues on my customers cars.

i had exactly the same problem, it has lost the code to the injector pump to pump fuel, it need pluggin in cost me 70

i have an independant about 20 miles away well 2 actually so i use them, the main dealer shouldnt charge to much though. the only difficulty is gettin the car there i used the AA

thankyou all for your help

contacted an LAndrover independant - came over- hooked it up to laptop/diagnostic wotsit

reset the thingamejig, and it started first turn, 10 min job

£50 plus vat

well chuffed

thanks
