Hi All,

Now I do consider myself fairly sensible when it comes to parting with what little cash that I have however I provide this word of caution to you all.

I like to shop online at the times when perhaps the shops are shut. I am busy in the day like many people and when I get home the family demands time so by the time all that is done it is perhaps 9pm or later before I hit the PC.

LAST night I was looking at ordering my tyres from a well known company supplying 4x4 parts. The total was well over £550.00. By pure coincidence at the same time 'Wheeler Dealers' were on and the guy said 'Don't be afraid to haggle' So i fired off an email to see what deal could be done.

Sorry about the long post but bare with me.........:D

This morning an email is returned stating THE TYRES WERE OUT OF STOCK and they didn't know when they would be back in.

BUT THEY WERE STILL GOING TO TAKE MY MONEY ON THE WEBSITE!!. No indication that the product was out of stock, no indication that you would be charged for something they couldn't deliver.

So take heed and always call if you are spending any serious cash.

Now I need to find some descent MT tyres 33x12.5x15 and at present it looks like Im stuck with GT Adventuro's - are these any good?

Grenn Horney Hornet:)

Similar thing happened to me when I ordered a water pump for my RRC...twice!
First I didn't take heed of whether it was in stock or not. They took my money but sent me an email that said the part was out of stock.

Went another website, checked to see if it was in stock and the site said yes. So I ordered it. And they took the money. Got another email that said it was out of stock!

It was a very heated phone call that followed.

It must be the way business is done these days.:(

Could you not just cancel the credit card payment??

I paid with a card online and the transaction was done before I found out the problem.

Now I deal with one company only, Atlantic British. Top notch guys who've sold Landy parts in the States since 1970.

Yes it will be.

If you have no joy getting an immediate refund from any company you tried to buy the stuff from, call your credit card company and dispute the payment. They will refund you and then they have the hassle of getting their money from said company.

Simples ;)

The nasty phone call got the same result plus I got spew on the f**kers.

Ive had the same problem online but not with autoparts, it says "in stock" but when you order you get an email saying it will be in by the 15th etc, that day came and passed without so much as an order update so one angry email later i got the problem resolved and it arrived - broken! I wouldnt have minded so much but id paid extra for UPS next working day delivery:doh: still in the process of getting the matter resolved.....

This seems to be getting quite commmon, 2 occasions I paid for stuff that was out of stock one was a 24Volt bulb for a pice of disco lighting gear, second was a stat for a commercial fryer so not just the motor trade I think its getting more like drop shipping

It is disgusting to think that today you can have information on your website about anything you sell yet companies refuse to update or even state stock levels.

Some do it so people don't go elsewhere for a variety of products, however if your customer service is good then people will wait. I am happy to deal with any company regularly as long as they appreciate the business. A simple email to say that the item is sent or dispatched or sorted. Many ebayers make better company's that established entities.

The experience has made me scrub this particular company from my source list and as I am conscious that recently is have stated who I buy things from I can say that Foundry 4x4, M and M 4x4 and Brookwells are all great companies as is YRM Metal. Perhaps the bigger companies should take heed as it is tantamount to stealing or even obtaining money undr false pretences.

rant over - may everyone have a great weekend

I'm waiting for an adjustable panhard off QT. they havent got the Rose joints in stock, coming from Germany for the past month.
