Condition is irrelevant - it's the steel I want, so broken, rusty or unserviceable is probably better than in working order for me.

I've built myself a mini forge, I'm intending to make a few billhooks and sheath knives and I really quite fancy one made out of a bit of old landy.

I'll happily collect provided the distance is sensible, failing that I'd have to ask the LZ courier service.

A Newton pattern billhook.

A bit handier than a hatchet, less fragile than a knife. It's the hand tool equivalent to a small chainsaw really. Used for hedge laying, pruning, splitting, riving and carving.

Apparently spring steel makes for good ones :D
 
how many yer want ? thers loads ere,

am in the process of building a forge too, :) gorra couple of big anvils too,

any pics of yer forge?

we did this on another site ;) made knives out of leaf springs, they straighten with heat pretty easy , the last lot i sent via post wer bout a tenner each leaf :(

where bouts are yer any hows ;)

Just the one should do it I reckon. I've not used the forge yet so I've no idea if I'm any good at it or not, I'm not aiming to go into mainstream production or owt, just make myself a billhook :)

Anvils... very handy. Still on the lookout for something half decent. Will be using an old hammer until I can find a bit of railway track or similar.

Not really - but I'll take some tomorrow if the weather's ok. It's a 15kg gas bottle which I've part turned into a woodburner - the 'door' is the top of the bottle and holds a handy amount of charcoal, air fed from underneath from an aqua vac set on blow.

A friend of mine has regular access to old metal working files - trouble is all the ones he's donated to the cause so far have been better than the ones I'm using! Provided they're not case hardened cheap stuff they're pretty good blade stock apparently, too narrow for a billhook though.

Have you seen Peter Green's knife making in the woods DVD? If not send me an e-mail (contact details on the link in my sig) with your postal address and I'll snail mail you a copy on disk, save you the download.

I'm in Cumbria, but I'm coming South to visit relations in early June and there's always the LZ courier if all else fails. I'm not exactly in a rush for the stuff as work is picking up and spare time is getting shorter ;)

i started a fred on knives last week, ther more a grinder job than forged , so will have a go at forged knives when i get time, :rolleyes:

Cheers for the offer 90 - funds are exceeding tight at the moment and my Mrs would skin me if I spent money on postage. Advertising gets underway beginning of next month so hopefully things will pick up a bit.

If you've still got some available at the beginning of June we're coming South to visit friends and family and will be passing through Staffs on the M6 - alright if I pick one up then?
