No. Use Tractor Universal, the best all-round engine oil ever made.

I assume you have tested all other oils in identical test conditions to be able to claim that

Its probably ok to use in landy engines as they are old engine designs, you wouldnt see me putting it in anything modern though.

An deff not in a high reving petrol engine. Although it does meet some of the specs.

I still have my SAAB 900 Aero Turbo that I bought at 45k miles.
That same day I changed the engine oil and filter. Put in Ovoline Tractor Universal, and it's now on over 150K miles and as clean as a whistle inside.

So why do you you think these oils aren't up to the job?
I'm assuming you have no experience of them.

My TD5 Disco has just done its last 60K miles on that same oil.
What's the problem?

Of course not! There are too many crappy oils out there to waste time and money doing that.

I bet you think "fully synthetic" oils are better lubricants than mineral oils.
If so, you'd be wrong. It is far better for both the engine and your pocket to use Tractor Universal, and change it every 5k - 6k miles, than to use SYNTH that costs five times as much and "lasts twice as long". Doing that leaves all the crappy stuff inside the engine for "twice as long".

Your loss! I buy a 210 litre barrel once in a while, and use it on EVERY engine here.

How much does your 210 litres cost CharlesY?

I had a 20 litre one cost me a shade under £25 a while back, 3 changes for £8.30 a go (plus filter) and top ups effectively free from the 2 litres left.

I'm never buying oil at Halfrauds again!

I think the last 210 barel I bought was just over £1.10 per litre.
It was cheaper than Diesel FUEL! Then I had another nice steel oil drum!

These are top class oils made to extremely high specifications, so that as far as possible they are "farmer proof".

The best thing one can do for any engine is to change the oil and filters regularly. That is the ONLY way to physically REMOVE the harmful crap and acids and particles from inside the engine.

However, the synthetic oil experts always know better, that it's OK to leave all the harmful crap and acids and particles inside the engine for 20,000 miles or longer. I have old fashioned ideas about that. I also have long-lasting engines that are nice and clean inside.

Is it one of these you use?

I am guessing maybe the SUTO?

I work for Ford at their Powertain Development Centre as part of the Fuels and Lubes team and I dont recognise that spec at all which tells me its very old. I will do some digging though and see what it is :)

Generally petrol engines (especially turbos) run at much higher temperatures to diesels so a oil specced just for diesels may not be able to withstand those temps for long periods of time. Its one reason why its not a good idea to fit a diesel turbo onto a petrol engine as the turbine housings can crack due to the higher EGT's :(
