No drive except in diff lock.

it will slip in stub axle as is just tube for wheel to rotate about drive member slipping did you mean the whole drive of vehicle goes through the drive members

Not entirely sure what you mean but if in neutral it should turn the prop as there will be no restrictions?

That will be the problem then lol
Thought I read after that: can't find the problem think it was me not putting it in gear properly???

The plot thickens!

Having stripped the entire front axle down and checking the prop, diff, half shafts, CVs we still havent found the issue. We did find that the clutch master cylinder was dry, oops. Wondering now whether the landy jumped out of gear and i couldnt then get the gearbox to engage into high or low properly unless i smacked it across to diff lock.

Alot of work for potentially a totally different fault.

On the plus side, the near side stub axle spline was wrecked and one of the swivel balls was leaking and the propshaft seal from the diff housing had a small leak too. All these will be sorteso not a total loss.

This one

sorry meant cv joint slipping in the drive flange on the nearside, its been a long day, hard work doing mobile defender repairs i prefer the comfort of my own garage

We are almost rebuilt. 220 odd quid later.

If it could be difficult it has been and has taken us a lot more time than it should have but we are getting there. Had to chop the CV joint off the half shaft with a disc cutter, hubs were practically welded to the old discs and have had to order new brake pad retaining pins as the old ones are knackered.

The saga continues!

Callipers were ****ed so another £200 and a quick run to lincoln today. Got back to find the wrong calliper in the correct box. I have 2 nearside callipers. No more in stock for 4 days. Cock.

This was the issue. Just rebuilding as and when we have time. I have zero experience so am reliant on swift to do most work in between his other commitments.

Took my rear prop off again today to change hand brake shoes, put it in diff lock again and again no drive !! works in low ok.
So took gatter and foam from gear levers and center lid off to gain access to top of box etc.
started selecting high and high diff lock and the linkages are all working ok, can feel it clonking into diff lock but still no drive, it seems to select all the high low gears and is positive when i do, but in high diff lock i get no drive to the front.
Trying to get my head around what James said but clutch and everything seems ok, although clutch bites a little high and clutch fluid does need changing !!
The only other thing ive done is changed the diff oil and i did over fill as it blew out the breather and i stuck a bottle on the end and seems to have stopped blowing out now.
So is something broke or am i still missing something !!!! other than a brain !

when you put into diff lock you are just pushing lever left and leaving there ,hi and low can still be selected with lever still left,

i cant see how thats mechanically possible, diff lock is a collar that slides from been just on diff tube to front output shaft which has a set of teeth that connect to collar so when diff lock selected diff housing and front out put are physically joined giving diff lock, high and low are two gears which rotate around diff housing (tube) and are locked to it through high/low selector which is another sliding collar to connect splines on diff to either gear just the same as crown wheel and pinion in axle but with choice of big/little high/low crown wheel the diff the works the same as axle as long as they are 2 paths for drive front back it can go down both as on road or just one in wheel slip situation, but once difflock applied it must go down both giving you ability to remove one prop and still drive,i cant see how you can drive in low and not high in difflock with everthing working as should in every other respect, unless lever housing gate and lever where pulling out of difflock when pulled back for high,if fault with front axle it wouldnt work in low as well,a worn slipping clutch can sometimes be driven in low but not high but that has nothing to do with difflock unless it wont drive in high at all with or without rear prop as that would be fault in rear axle that the diff lock was compensating for
