Good evening everyone;

I was advised to post this here from another site, the person involved sugested you guys/girls are the people to ask so here goes.....

As the title says im new to freelander issues; as i can normally be found on the rover 75 section. Im looking for help on what to look for on a freinds freelander she broke her leg so off the road for awhile and i said id service the car. then she gave me a list of faults too.....as freinds do!!

The freelander is an 03 plate 5door TD4 (it looks like the mondeo) 60k

The faults are 1: Hill desent light on dash intermittenly comes on.
2: SRS light intermittently comes on.
3: Tailgate window opens intermittently (usually when it rains)
4: Rear electric window not opening(driverside)
5: Squealing noise when turning hard right.
6: At idle the engine intermittently seems to (misfire) judder if its going to stall but not always.

Ive looked at certain things like the wiring between the body and the tailgate theres no obviuos signs of wear or chaffing ect
Ive had the rear window motor apart from the assembly and when you opperate the switches the motor kicks in and tries to twist the motor body

So if anybody can offer any sollutions help advice as ever it would be greatly recieved.

Freelander that looks like a Mondeo:eek:, thats a new one :D

Hill descent light - is it on on its own without traction control and ABS? if so I would check the wiring connections the the switch.

SRS light - check the connections to the seat belt pre-tensioners under the seats - yellow wire/plug IIRC, if unplugging to clean and check, disconnect the battery first and leave 10mins to allow the SRS system to de-charge.

Tailgate window - taken from the common faults section

My rear window opens by itself!

On 3-door models, this can be caused by the switch in the body side which detects if a hard-top or soft-top is fitted. A faulty or badly adjusted switch will cause the window to lower itself.

On 3 or 5 door models, several owners have had the control unit replaced to cure the problems of returning to a parked car to find the rear window open. This can also be caused by dirty or faulty sensors in the rear door.

Rear electric window could be switch, snapped regulator cable or motor - will need investigation to find out why. From your description its possibly the regulator cable jammed inside the motor spool.

Thanks Mantamad for your advice its much appreciated yes the Hill decent light comes on on its own, and occationally the abs or traction control might show up on there own to again on there own....

If the cable on the rear window has jammed how hard is it to remove the mechanism and fit a replacement from a scrapyard assuming i can find one? All the freelanders ive seen so far have wind up rear windows.
