New ECU and now getting 135 MPH

Hi Guy’s… I’m getting a bit miffed off at my mates claims that his ‘W’ reg TD5 does 135 MPH with his new ECU fitted
He’s basically had one fitted from the new V6 (or something), re-mapped and presumably re-configured to deal with 5 pot’s????... and now he’s saying it does 135 MPH as confirmed by his sat-nav etc??

I’m not sure of the gearing on a Std TD5 (he has got the V6 wheel and tyres on the thing which are slightly bigger) but everything else is standard :flame:
Is this possible.. or would he be seeing 9000 RPM at this speed :hysterically_laughi

IMO that's b0ll0x

My thoughts exactly ;) ... any idea given the std gearing what the TD5 would max out at before it red lines maybe accounting for 1" bigger wheels... ??

is manual or auto, the auto is only 4 speed so would never give you 135, and a manual imo would be screaming its balls off at that speed if it could even get that high up the revs, the tdv6 are 6 speeders, so i says its rubbish

just checked on a ratio site,
rear diff is 3.54,
overall tyre/wheel size =28in
speed 135mph
=== gives an rpm 5750!!!! =screaming bollocks would a diesel even rev that high?

He did say it was screaming its b**locks off... so could it be true?...
could it do 5.75K RPM?.... as it has got new (1" bigger) wheels
Its defo MPH as he's calibrated it with his GPS thingy?...

FFS... I hope its not true :scratching_chin:

BTW.. its manual...

Complete and utter bôllox - 135mph your are 'avin' a larf :eek:

Maybe he's got a very "special" GPS.

i have driven a d2 at 120 but it wouldnt go over it also not shure about speedo eror m8 in impreza said 115 when i passed but all i can say is never again way to scared and after rolling it i dont go over 70 no 55 mainly

As it's a diesel, the pump governor would kick in long before 135 mph was seen on the speedo.

I recon a Disco has the wind resistance of a barn, so it would have to be shoving out more power than a Ferrari F1 to get it any where near 135 mph, that's if the engine and gearbox wasn't in bits on the motorway somewhere.

To recalibrate a new v6 tdi ecu for the older td5 engine is ridiculous. Its not just as simple as flashing a map for a 5 pot. The newer v6 would have more control strategies for fueling and smoke control, but they would be of no use to an older euro 3 engine. Its not impossible, but its like getting a brand new top of the range pc, and running windows 95.

I can't see what the point of the new ecu is anyway

It's only deciding where and when to put the fuel

Any ecu could do that with the correct programming but it's not going to bolt on 100bhp, it's still the same engine

Can't bear to think what the Propshafts were saying

Got to 100 in my disco, 3.5 on 33s with a few inches lift, just to scary man I had to slow down

Somebody needs to bang their td5 (manual please) in 5th gear and see what speed it does at exactly 2000rpm and then we can work out rpms for 135mph and then discuss how many rods would be through the block!
