I've had good experiences with my Kenwood head unit, its a few years old and only has CD/AUX/radio but it's taken a lot of abuse. The 90 has no roof all summer and the unit regularly gets soaked or covered in mud yet still seems to work. The CD player has finally died but only because the unit sat in the back of my mates truck covered in clutch fluid for 3 months

Alpine kit is very nice but not cheap. It may be worth fitting soundproofing etc if you want to get the best out off top-spec audio stuff.

As for speakers, I've used a mix of JBL, Ripspeed (halfords own) and Fli. The first two were surprisingly good, the latter not so...

yea fli isnt great, ruined 3 speakers so far

I'm a seasoned Landy Zoner and I want to k ow the answer to your question too. Has anybody on here got a decent head unit they can recommend.????

Any decent head unit will do the job. Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, JVC basically if you have heard of it then it should be OK.

The issue is speakers. Most head units put out about 40w which will be sufficient if you also fit a sub.

The standard front speakers are in just about the worst place, facing into the footwells.
Replace them with some reasonable mid range units and fit tweeters on the top of the dash.
Fitting rear speakers (where possible) makes a big difference as it fills out the sound, any half decent two way speaker will do as they only provide fill in sound.

What you must fit is a sub woofer, it can go in the battery box (but you’ll have to leave the lid off)
Or you can get one that fits in/on the back of the cubby box.

It doesn’t need to be the size of a suitcase, mine’s smaller than a shoe box and although it won’t win a “bass off” competition it produces good solid low end sound and with it turned on the system sounds good enough to surprise passengers.

As 'money is no object' Bose do a nice little setup as fitted in my mate's Roller for around three grand, which sounds pure 'concert hall' as it is linked in with a pair of Leak at around the two grand mark!
However, would you really be able to appreciate the quality in your Landy?
I have a reasonable quality unit in the dash with a pair of half decent 6" speakers mounted in the headlining, and I can listen to speech or music at low volume. The whole lot cost around the fifty quid mark, and nobody would ever be bothered to break in and nick it, simply because it has been made to look like cr@p by judicious use of a bit of grey paint
