New builds must have the rear stays angled to the rear main hoop corners. In line with the chassis rails is no longer allowed unless already log booked.

Lol Yup my old 80 inch has stays inline with the chassis rails so better get it relogbooked asap.

Think anyone building ones will put them diagnally anyway. Just got the msa updates through for 2014 few reg changes for comp safari aswell.

Average speed must now not exceed 30mph, If run above 30mph a maximum of 50mph average speed it must run to hillrally special stage regs and be forever known as Safari Plus.

My little 80 the engine is all wired and piped up now should have started but was dark and no exhaust on the v8 I did crank it and it tried to fire but thought best not to next door might not have been so happy.

Ive always done them angled wouldnt do it any other way, you need all the nodes to meet!

When i use to co drive in a comp safri racer & started in 1989 We were by todays standards very slow Susspension for this form of sport is what has allowed higher speeds The last racer i was in had a rear engined cosworth & had 360hp at the wheels The car was same weight as a fiesta Can remeber at full chat across a stubble field in excess of 120mph Max average speed of course being 40mph Thats why they have now had to reduce the average speed As you die or kill spectors

When you apply for a license to put on an event you have to state what average speed bracket you will run in, the faster the event the more marshals, first aid, doctors, ambulances, spectator control you need to provide. Plus the vehicle needs to be built to a higher spec, which all ads to the cost.
So for a 30 mph average when laying out if we are going 80/90 over a field we go through some twisty trials type sections to bring down the average (which is how off-road racing should be) so yes you go as fast as possible and 30 average may sound slow but its really not. just going 40 through woods between big trees focuses the mind and tightens the sphincter.

Comp safari should remain as owl says hard terrain to cross with hard sections and faster bits otherwise its just rallying or F1 the costs rocket and land rovers or even 4x4 are not needed its just a flat course.

Ah my bro used to comp safari circa 1989-1994 team mellow racing yellow rangie pickup an then a hybrid thingy pics on reconrovers.com under comps

The family used to trial in my old

Was that a Comp Safari or a Timed Trial?
Mind you, when I was competing in the early to mid 70's our roll cages were generally built from scaff tubes, with all welds certified!
David Simmonite was a great help with the design, and then went out and formed the AWDC!
