i had the td5 mot'd yesterday and got advisories for track rod, both ends and all four drop links.

never done the drop links before and only done the full trck rod on the P38 before.

any tips?

cheers

Im Happy,My 1999 TD5 disco passed its mot yesterday,Mind you every year before taking it to have its test i have the hand brake stripped and new oil seal fitted as the hand brake,Transmission brake what ever..Stops working about 2 months after its been fixed,So this year i said while you fit a new seal can you also fit a seal flange at the same time so we will see how long it will last this time.I also lay underneath the disco about a mile before the mot center and spray a couple of cans of brake/clutch cleaner all round the ace block and power steering pump so there are no traces oil there.

I just ask em if it's needed!! I have never used the handbrake yet on an auto and ain't gonna start now. The park setting on the gearbox is more than enough!!!

my advise for fitting the track rod ends is to count how many full turns you wind the old ones off (one at a time) then wind the new one one the same number. when you have finished get your wheel alignment checked cus it WILL be out but shouldn't be much. as fot the drop links use plenty of wd40

its the full rod thats gone so it will be a case of measure it up i think. i will get the 4 way tracking done tho, had to do it on the P38

For replacing the drop links, you're best off ensuring that when you buy the new ones, they come with new nuts for both ends.

When removing the old ones there is a better than even chance they will be seized. If that is the case just grind off the nuts and the links will fall off.
