After far too long off the road with expired MOT my old girl (2004 D2 manual td5) now has a shiny new MOT. Taxing from 1st March.
Just minor advisories for dust covers on both lower suspension ball joints. As the actual ball joints are OK and the work involved to strip them out, I’m considering split style dust covers from eBay such as these:
Has anybody used these?
I changed all the transmission oils prior to MOT. Have to say gear changes were a bit clunky with Comma MVMTF Plus 75w80 (meets MTF94 spec) when cold but fine when warm. I’ve only done 10 miles each way for MOT and back, will see what I think when she’s back on the road as may have been overthinking it after all this time but I’m considering a switch to ATF Dexron III when the weather’s better. Will also have a read of some threads on the subject.
Edit: Corrected gearbox oil to Comma MVMTF Plus 75w80

UNIVERSAL SPLIT BALL JOINT TRACK ROD END RUBBER DUST COVER KIT FITS ALL CARS | eBay
The kit also includes grease. So there will be no need to buy a tub of grease from your local garage which will cost around the price of this complete kit. The kit also includes enough grease and extra fixing ties for the 2 remaining gaiters should you wish to use them on other vehicles.
