The LZ is brilliant for help and advice but would there be a space for the more experienced willingly providing practical help to those with less knowledge or experience? For example I would like a mentor to show me how to remove and refurbish my 300tdi engine and gear box from my D90. Happy to do the work myself but would welcome a guiding hand.
There used to be things like car clubs around where members could use facilities and get advice. Tried looking at a night school for some help but they only seems to be geared to training vehicle fitters these days and not those that tinker and improve.
Just a thought

The system already exists :-

Make friends with people, get to know them and dont take the mick asking for favours that arent reciprocated.

I personally see no need for a special section to get people to get free work done to their vehicle
