Hi guys - I have an '89 3.5 on sorn & having had a couple of enquiries for it I may re-MOT (expired in Aug.) Does anyone know if the following would fail the test?
1) front passenger floor rusted through, close to kick-panel (main area ok)
2) rear inner wheelarches (next to seat) starting to perforate.
3) lower tailgate corroded through at bottom edge (centre)
nb: no 'mention's' in last years advise sheet.

1 will fail cos it's structural
2 will fail cos it's near seatbelt anchorages
3 shouldn't fail

unless you can find stevie wonder's MOT centre.

1. If the hole is within 12 inches of a body mounting point, then I would expect a failure.

2. As above, plus seat belt mounting point.

3. Its not structural, so not part of the MOT.

the others above are bang on.

I had corrosion in the whhelarches up through nr to the door pillar. Cos it was 'within 30cm' of anchorage point it failed and needed quite a bit of neat welding (both sides of the vehicle) Hows your rear crossmember? Beacuase didnt even realise but mine was again out of the rules with excessive corrosion and so a new cross member and more welding had that re-done.

Many thanks for the replies guys, I was half expecting the bad news. Won't be losing my parking space for the old girl just yet but looks like it's going to be a breaker job. When the time comes I'll put the details on this forum as (for one thing) the interior/headlining is virtually unmarked.

I might be interested if the price is right after a look see...;).

Contact me via a pm if you decide to sell it.

Agree completely on first two, just be wary of the third point, if it's rusted in such a way as to be dangerous to people (pedestrians etc) by leaving a jagged edge or something they can fail it, but it would have to be a hell of a rust hole for that.

Thanks for the interest, it's currently parked in the drive of a house that is for sale so it could be next week or next year.
