Just out of curiosity how many miles per tank do you get from a4.6 ?

All are different,i have a 4.6 she has done 57k(48k when i had her 5 years back)i do very low mileage but around town get 12-14 on a main road with cars moving about 19-20 and at 60-65mph i get 25-26.As i dont do much mileage changing to LPG is not worth it,but thats just me if you do say 10k a year then things change.

Well I can get it for 2500, thing looks mint it's black and spotless chap says was imported from japan in 2000, it's a 4.6 hse he says runs amazing no problems at all , thing is for that price sounds like a good deal, when you look at the high mileage ones out there, anyone got any views on imports and 4.6 hse p38, should I take the risk ? My plan would be to LPG it,

if your happy paying 2500 for it and 2000 for lpg go for it you probably wont regret it,as for mpg expect about 250 miles to a tank of petrol i wont use lpg myself, if i wanted a cheaper range i would have a diesel,4500 would buy you a good dse, as said do your home work on what you need and gonna use the car for

well i pick it up on friday and next months wage plus wee bit of savings will be used for lpg kit, some may say mad waste of cash but hey ho,
how do you find the lpg system ? and mileage wise say you filled the up the fuel and lpg tanks what would that cost and how many miles do you get from each tank? there so many conflicting figures on here you see thats why im asking.
many thanks

Make sure you go for a multipoint installation, using gas injectors.
P38's don't like single point.
Shop around, these can vary from £1300 - £2500, depends on where in the country you are.
You should get at least 1 years warranty and a free service of the system before the year is up.
They should also have you back after about 500 miles to check the settings and tune the system.

You should get around 180 - 220 miles from about £50 worth of gas

Is this around town? I ask as that seems a lot, around here LPG is 65-71p per ltr so at say 70p its about £3.00-£3.10 a gallon this means you get at the very least 16 gallons for £50? Where as i get just over 8 gallons so that gives me from 160 to 210 miles at say 50 to 70 mph.I do ask because i am changing jobs and to am think LPG or run around small car as the range is here to say..

I think run small car as that puts less wear on rangey and you appreciate it more at weekends when you drive it. For the cost of lpg conversion you could buy a nice little small car and savings on fuel may even cover the road tax .Just my opinion for what its worth.

Yes i did think the same thing.I will be doing about 260-280 a week so did not want to put that sort of mileage on her as i have had her 6 years and she has still only done just 60k(2001 4.6)Also i hvae looked at a 206 HDI
at a garage just down the road it's a 2002 1.4 looks in V good cond with 66k full one owner history and it will do 78 mpg :)
So that means £30 a week instead of £80 :D

£50 = approx 15 galls of lpg (round here 75p / litre)

15 galls at approx 15 mpg = 225 miles
(round town from my 4.6 P38, does vary though because of traffic)

On a run I get more like 17 / 18 mpg on lpg

Yes my Figs were a little out,my car will do 25-26 on a run(50-60mph)but even if i get 21 on lpg i do think 78mpg is still better for me,yes i know 4X4s will be looking down on me as i do when i am in mine but it's just a work type car and so will have to go small and love my range at weekends and Hols.
