Rather than try to describe I've included a video.

The long and short of it push the pedal to go and it goes then looses revs and the accelerator is unresponsive. It comes back to life only to repeat... The video is of it doing it in idle! Didn't want to record while driving. ;-)

She's a 93 200tdi I have cleaned out the sedimenter and changed the fuel filter with no luck. Other than my new aroma of diesel. I'm at a stump. Lol checked the fuel pipes and there's no cracks and tho there is rust on the sedimenter pipes it doesn't look too bad.
 
Yea here's a pic.. OK there rusty but don't look to be any holes.

Is it worth replacing them? Ie is it definitely a fuel problem?
 
It sounds like a fuel problem.......

I meant the gauze filter at the bottom of the pic up pipe. Might be worth checking the fuel feed again as a holed fuel line won't necessarily leak but suck in air.

One way to confirm it's a fueling problem is rig up a gravity feed from a bottle or similar to the injection pump and see if she runs ok.
 
Ahh ok... I'll check the gauze later if there's a break in this weather! How hard is it just to replace all the pipe. And is there any common problem areas?
 
Well went for a search again and I can't find any holes or cracks... Tho using my camera I could see above the sedimenter and this is what it's like.

Could the hole be in the sedimenter? As I read between the lines on a post and they can develop holes?

And if I wanted to bypass the sedimenter would I just unplug those 2 ends and insert them into a copper pipe thus joining them?

Hi wrapt one, had same problem with my 300tdi I replaced fuel lines,lift pump,fuel filter and still had same problem, turns out my new lift pump was faulty ( genuine landrover part).

Cheers handy, was just about to to order a Delphi Lift pump and then though I'd check with the engine ticking over and we'll starting at the back nothing until I got to the engine and noticed when my fingers covered a peice of pipe the engine was more responsive then lookin at it I removed my finger and we'll it spring a leak!

Can I just replace this with fuel hose or does it need a certain part?

You can replace with fuel hose but it looks like it has split on the banjo union.

As a temp fix snip an inch off and pop back on, does the rest of the length of pipe seem to be in tact?
 
Well if this is the fix I'll leave the sedimenter in, I go with the if it ain't broke why fix.. ;-) but if it's still having problems I'm bypassing and getting a lift pump.

Soft mick thanks but on checking the pipe is very brittle at that end and I've cut all the bad out and it's too short, so I'll get a length of fuel pipe and replace.

Well just my luck.... It's not resolved :-( but found a little more info but I'm no unsure if it's the pump!

As you can see there is airbubbles in the return pipe! If I manually use the lift pump you can hear a sucking noise and then airbubbles appear in the pipe straight away! I'm convinced it's not the sedimenter as air bubbles wouldn't get there that fast (hope that makes sence) could this be a problem with the fuel injection?

I'm sure I'm confusing myself more lol

Bleed it twice one on the top of the filter and by doing a banjo on the return from the pump both the same result... I'll see how a pump goes. It ticks over Ok the pipe I've replaced has made a improvement but not enough..
 
Got the new lift pump just now.. So set on to replace and notice my current lift pump has a spacer there? I've included the pic.. Does this need to be there as a few guieds I've seen don't mention a spacer..?

Thanks for the help it's now fixed went to bypass the sedimenter and found this.

Used 8mm over the top of the existing pipe and hose clipped down. Now 100% and no air bubbles ;-)

Took it for a drive and while going down the M1 it started again :mad:

managed to get it off the m1 but i have noticed at revs there is a minute trace of bubbles, now here is what I've got the Fuel Spill Return Pipe that i replaced and is clear, it has a air bubble in and i can only remove it when the engine is on and i pull it off and then reconnect, the car is fine (infact its driving better than it has in a long time) and when the Fuel Spill Return Pipe is empty of fuel that when it stats loosing power! there must me another hole somwhere? and is the Fuel Spill Return Pipe ment to have air in it. note if i hand prime the Fuel Spill Return Pipe never fills?

Any Help is greatly recived!
 
have you checked the pipes along the injectors? my 300 was doing the exact same thing.

i could also hear the hissing sound when manually using the lift pump, look around the injectors when pumping it for small leaks and when its running that should be your problem mate
 
I'll give them the once over once I've warmed up and had a bacon sandwich ;-), gone out this morning and it's now back to how it was before I can't even get up the hill?

I have gone along the fuel line spraying wd40 to see if that causes any change in revs and no nothing, so the injectors could be a good shot!
