This is advise from LARA ...

The UK’s Coalition Government has said that it would repeal some of the ‘bad
laws’ introduced by the Blair/Brown administration, and that Deputy PM Nick
Clegg will be compiling a list. Following that ‘YES!’ moment, all went quiet. So
LARA asked how we, the electorate, might input to this list.
We have heard back and it appears that if you write to your MP she or he will
pass on your suggestions to Deputy Prime Minister.
The experts amongst you will be able to quote the relevant subsections that
are troublesome to us but even if your letter writing skills are not to university
standard you can still get your point across in broad terms.

Sir,
I write concerning the stated aim of the Coalition Government to repeal
some recent legislation where it is ineffectual or otherwise flawed. I ask
that you forward this letter to the Deputy Prime Minister, Rt Hon Nick
Clegg MP with the request that section 67 of the Natural Environment &
Rural Communities Act 2006 be repealed on the grounds that it is a clumsy
statute that has caused very unfair and unreasonable impacts to a
significant part of the community, often creating absurd situations, rather
than solving problems. There has to be a better and fairer way of
addressing the recording and sustainable use of our ancient highways.

You could simply copy & paste the above sample letter, but there are many
unintended consequences of CRoW 2000 & NERC 2006 that you may want to
address, if you feel you have the understanding to so do:
Cul-de-sac byways.
homes with no vehicular access.
loss of amenity.
loss of heritage & history.
unsustainable routes are open to motorists without proportionate
regulation.
sustainable routes are closed to motorists.
increased work-load for highway authorities.
injustice.
Please let us know what response you get from your MP.

I wrote a letter to my Local MP last week. This is his response:

Thank you for contacting me and for your request that I write on your behalf to Nick Clegg MP the Deputy Prime Minister in respect of repealing Section 67 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.

I can confirm that I have written to the Deputy Prime Minister to ask him to consider your request to repeal this particular statute and will be back in contact with you as soon as a reply is received.

With very best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Selous

So everyone else should do the same thing with their MPs and we might get a voice heard. Not necessarily change very much but at least start to get the issue into a wider arena.

Unfortunatly there are too many people who are happy to leave it to someone else . It will only take a couple of minutes of your time, please please make the effort.

Agreed, its literally 5 minutes of time. I've written mine, but have yet to hear back...

If everyone on LandyZone wrote, we might stand a chance of something actually happening :D

Come on people. There must be more than this. If you can not be bothered to write... how the hell can you compain about what the government does to curtail our enjoyment of the countryside

Basically

Put up or Shut up!

Mine's gone with a little extra .. ;)

"Dear Rosie Winterton,

As a person who drives, walks and cycles these ancient lanes I feel that banning motor vehicles from them is a completely unjust and unfair, if not discriminatory, way of targetting people who possibly can't see these ancient lanes themselves through disability or otherwise.

There are so few lanes left for motor vehicles to legally go off-road compared to the vast majority of lanes for pedestrians and horse riders that once again the motorist is coming under attack simply for enjoying a hobby.

I look forward to your reply."

Actually, I think they might be getting sick of me .. I write her every few weeks about this or that regarding 4x4's and the problems we encounter green-laning etc.

I'd have sent it earlier but have had other things to do .. ;)

Thought I'd try to get the 'disabled discrimination', emotional blackmail, thing in, might make someone think twice. Or not.

One e-mail sent to Greg Clark MP

While the above is copied and pasted from a from a land rover forum I am a member of my feelings on the subject can be summed up in a few lines.Only 1.85% of the rights of way network in the UK is available for motor vehicles to drive and it feels as if the 'powers that be' find it easier to close what is left rather than dealing with the problems. Yes there are the ignorant minority that abuse the rights of way by driving where there is no right of way and/or damaging the track and surrounding country side. Unfortunately those who make the rules only seem to see this side of the situation and the 'evil 4x4'. They don't see me turning round or not using a track because the conditions at the time would cause me to do a lot of damage or clearing fallen trees make the track better for all users. I can't claim to have all if any of the answers but surely dealing with the problems is better than just denying people of the right to responsibly enjoy there hobby.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Yours sincerely

Excuse my ignorance, but why do we have to ask our local MP to forward it to Nick Clegg (also why the Deputy PM?), surely we should just write to our MP's but also copy it to Nick Clegg to ensure it gets there???? Or am I missing something???

I have .. and to the local council Rights of Way officer .. ;)

I think that the idea is that if enough MPs get letters from their consituents then they are more likely to ask the relevant questions on pariament, whereas if only Nick Clegg gets it then we are trusting that his PA actually hands it to him to read.

I think its Nick Clegg that is looking into reversing some of the labour legislation.

Just sent another email to my MP asking why she hasnt replied to my first.

I will write a letter and send, but would it be worth asking if this thread could be put as a sticky in various sections like Anything Goes and General Land Rover Chat

Maybe, I now that Ratty is keeping an eye on here and it is already a sticky on the green laning bit...

Am still al ittle disappointed with the response though. If half the people who say they are pro green laning on this forum stick the mouths where there typing fingers live... we should be able to get a decent response going!
