Hi All,
Not sure if can advise much but just getting it off my chest to make me feel better and try and understand what happened.
In middle of driving down a hill I realised that the engine had cut off.
Electrics were on but was hard to steer. Tried switching off and starting again but engine wouldnt start.(electrics come on fine though)
I was in middle of road so some guys pushed me down the hill to move to safer place, Steering was rock hard and realised braking was difficult as well!
Got recovery and going to get it taken to garage.
The fuel pump(secondary?) use to make a whining noise at the back wheel driver side. This no longer makes a noise when turn the car on.

Does it sound like this is the issue, how much do you think would take to replace this,300-500 quid? Could it of damaged engine fuel being cut like that when on?

After washing machine and dishwasher packed in within a week I guess this is my third strike :(

Any comments or questions welcomed.

The low pressure fuel pump would be my first check based on what you have said, have you checked the fuses and relay for it? If it is that, I doubt it has caused any problems with the engine, although you will probably need to bleed the system. I've no idea on the repair cost Im afraid, I try to keep away from garages as they often see just as incompetent as me.

A Freelander 2 doesn't have a low pressure fuel pump in the rear.

So I'm assuming that this is a 2006 Freelander 1?

If the LP pump has stopped running, then the engine will also stop running.

A replacement pump and filter will cost about £150 for OE parts (DON'T USE PATTERN PARTS). It's about an hour of labour to replace both pump and filter.

Yes, freelander 1, 2litre Disel. My wife mentioned it kind of coughed on the motorway so that points to pump as well. Hope its just that and back on the road soon.

Cheers for tip on OE Parts

When the engine stops the steering will become more difficult to turn. Thats normal. Same for the foot brake. Will become harder to push and less effective. They're both side affects of the engine stopping.
