Following my thread on power steering for a series 3. I decided to research Sean's suggestion of electric power steering. Amongst other possibilities it seems TRW make an integrated electric powered hydraulic system (EPHS) suitable for light commercial and above use. As this system does not use a belt to the engine pully there must be considerable latitude in where the integrated pump/electric motor is mounted (wiring and hydraulic pipes being fairly flexible). Anybody got any knowledge of this system and its application please?

sorry for not replying to your PM sooner - you will need a type c column, the servo pulls about 50A when in use so fuse to suit - and the ECU replacement device can be purchased off ebay for less than £50. Some of these ECU devices offer the ability to control the amount of assistance provided via a variable resistor that can be dash mounted. I've found that a simple on/off switch is far more use - switch the assistance off when moving switch it on when steering/parking at slow speed.

The corsa servo is an inline unit so does require some cutting and welding to the original LR column
