If the old engine had the same problem then its an issue with your gearing...take it to someone who knows landys, wasn't someone in wolverhampton that offered?? Rule out the easy stuff first, i.e the difflock and hi/lo gb.

lol is this guy for real? Sounds like he never had a land rover before this one.
:dnfnoob:
50mph sounds pretty loud and restricting in 3rd gear if you ask me, you definitely not putting it into 3rd by mistake when you need 5th?

Also you need to get a car lift jack, put it under the front axle on one side and spin the wheel once it's off the ground like everyone else told you to do many times, and then tell us if it spins freely or if it barely moves and locks.

Oh and good luck with the neutral thing :D:doh:

that would be me,i can stand round looking baffled with the best of them.

i sent pm offering my limited skills to the party so if he gets really stuck he may call ,he's only young and sounds a bit lost bless him.i think this forum may be a bit daunting if you ain't got years of **** taking and abuse under your belt . but it can't be doing his centre diff any good if that is the problem.

hey sorry for late reply, it wont go past 50 without struggling. I told my dad about it and hes to stubbon and he drove it and he knows it wont go past 50! But he wont do anything about it! Im kinda worried it could be damageing the engine or something....

Hey, im only 18! im learning about land rovers and engines! And im a big V8 fan!

but would your dad mind you jacking front wheel up ,then maybe getting 13mm spanner and turning nut on bottom of difflock linkage on top of front of transfer box anti clockwise

He prob would if he knew the reason for me jacking it up. He thinks thats the top speed it should do, and thinks thats fast enough. He wont phone anyone about it, and thinks its fine.

He will know im lying because i dont know enough about land rovers and engines. Plus he will prob know straight away what im doing, because ive been goin onabout it to him for a couple of days. If this is left untreated, could it damage the engine?

What else could it be? And what damage could it do if its left? sorry to be a pain but hes doin my head in! It struggles on dual carriage way todo 50 and above. You can put your foot down but u can hear it strugglin and pushing.

you need to do this very simple check if it is the problem it will cause diff wind up and could damage diffs and transfer box both costly and timely repairs that can be easily avoided by using james' simple method, in case you missed it.

Jack up one fromt wheel and see if it spins freely.

we can then go from there and explore other possible problems.

gdgd seriously if you find a problem and save ur dad hundreds of pounds he shud be thankful not moaning bout it!

i assume he knows little about landys if you paid to hav the 200tdi fitted therefore you should show him thisnthread and he can learn as well :)

Yes i know he is, but i cant do anything he doesent want to change it because he thinks thats fast enough. He prob thinks im going to push it and speed in it when im not going to! He wont even phone anyone and ask if thats the right the top speed for it? I mean i have to do 45 on national speed limit roads, because it gets really loud and it sounds like your pushing it. Hes starting to really get on my nerves!
